German minister wants to decriminalise dumpster diving. To tackle the problem of food waste, German Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir is looking to decriminalise the practice of rescuing food from rubbish containers, including outside supermarkets, called dumpster diving

I am genuinely surprised from Özdemir actually pushing legislation that benefits the lowest rung of society.
Greens are being the jewel of the coalition, honestly.

Can we also at the same time force the supermarkets to donate unsold food like they do in France?
I’m a redneck and dumpster diving is (was) my favourite activity. Plenty of good and decent stuff thrown away for no reason
Or, hear me out for a second, set up a system where perfectly edible food doesn’t end up in a dumpster in the first place?
Has anyone thought about the grocery store profit margin tho?
dystopian law
Sure, turn supermarket employees into impromptu social workers (more than they already are) when a mentally ill/drug addict person goes rifling through the waste bins they’re supposed to be using for end of shift cleanup. That’s going to be lovely.
Seriously though, at a minimum leave it to supermarkets to trespass people.
