> Our officers acted in good faith throughout, but mistakes were made.
Go. Fuck. Yourself.
Even if you suspected they were protesters, they went above and beyond in providing press credentials (which isn’t a legal requirement mind). The officers in *bad faith* disregarded those credentials, arrested, imprisoned and then searched their fucking houses.
Not to go all American, but we seriously need a law that holds police criminally liable for the gross infringement, and this was gross, of fundamental rights under the colour of law.
Instead what we have is a tiny minority of victims suing the police and getting paid off with a few grand.
The arresting officers were acting under the direction of more senior officers.
Those senior officers, no doubt undertaking political directives, should be disciplined.
The arresting officers who abused their powers of arrest should be disciplined.
And I assume they will be arrested and charged for breaking the law? since it was unlawful?
I do hope they sue the Police to bits and dig up as much evidence to see where the orders came to clamp down on the press
Only thing I’m surprised about is that they acknowledged wrongdoing.
Don’t really understand why it took them so long to admit this, given that it was pretty obviously unlawful when they did it? The incompetence is honestly staggering
As a journalist covering the same kind of stories, the change in police behaviour after this incident was stark. They don’t try their usual intimidation tactics as much recently, and avoid us ‘best they can. Evidently severe orders not to make the same mistake were passed down.
Hopefully he will sue Herts Police. I’m sure once they lose some money they might take action to abusing senior (or not) officers.
