Gary Neville will be told not to air political views if he returns to ITV

  1. So the day after multiple Government figures put pressure on Neville and ITV, ITV announce that he’s going to be silenced. Is this what cancel culture is?

Isn’t that exactly what the “freaze peach” brigade, the supposed free speech champions within the government and the right wing press have been warning us about?

Now that there’s a real example of this elusive cancel culture (rather than just people using their free speech to call a racist a racist), do you think they’ll jump on it and defend Gary Neville’s right to speak?

  2. There are a lot of people I here ranting about “cancel culture” and “freeze peach” who clearly haven’t read the article.

  3. It’s impressive this hypocrite is still hitting the news and being heard.

He’s ~~complacent~~ complicit in FIFA and Qatar, and chooses afterwards to speak out against it once the cheque is cashed. His stint on HIGNFY was cringey when questioned by Ian Hislop. He looked like he was trying to hold back a laugh.

He’s only doing this because his image is tarnished and he’s trying to save face. He doesn’t really believe anything he comes out with, otherwise he wouldn’t have supported FIFA and Qatar in the first place. Serious error of judgement before and now.

Nothing is worse than someone who puts money before morality, and stays silent until it’s cashed. It’s disingenuous and gross. He’s disingenuous and gross.

And that’s ignoring his questionable business ethic. Nothing more than a champagne socialist attempting to save an image while cracking a whip at the wait staff.

    Edit: Should be complicit.

  4. Let’s rephrase this… Gary Neville will be told not to contradict the tories if he returns to ITV, or else ITV will be sold off at a knock down price to a Tory party donor

  5. “He’s a hypocrite because he claims skilled nurses, who need to do a degree and years of training, are underpaid, and yet he pays some unskilled workers less!” – the state of the right wing media right now

  6. What, criticising Qatari workers conditions is OK but it is not OK to say anything about British workers conditions ? Is my understanding correct ?

  7. This isn’t cancel culture though.

Cancel culture is when for example there is a political debate and a person wanting to discuss the politics is cancelled because some other people don’t agree with their politics.

Gary Neville is a football pundit. He is paid to comment on football, not politics, unless perhaps it specifically comes up in the context of football at times.

Stopping a TV chef talking about politics on a cookery show is not cancel culture nor is this.

  8. He’s a virtue signaling wanker. ITV should have dropped him ages ago.

I always wondered what his underpaid staff think everytime they see him preaching on TV

  9. I assume Richard Madeley will also be told not to push the Tory line when Mick Lynch is trying to speak

  10. Has anyone thought about starting a political party that is all ex footballers called Gary that are meant to be talking about the game

  11. Yes it’s the very same ITV that employs Jeremy Clarkson as a quiz show host.

I’d say ITV is prime No1 example of legacy media. Watching their desperate competition and advertising infested World Cup coverage was like being transported back to the previous cenntury

  12. It’s almost as if they don’t want football supporters getting exposed to politics, are they worried about who they will vote for?

  13. 100% justified and if we carry on like this.. it will be a quid a day for workers and billions of the few. Fuck the Tories, people are going cold and hungry right now!

What the fuck is “working benefits”.. either you are working or on benefits.. but things are so bad that people who work still need benefits.. wake up and fight .. before its too late.

  14. As much of a hypocrite that he is, it’s funny to see some Tory supporter at ITV didn’t like hearing the truth.

  15. As long as they make clear he’s a Labour Party member with a relationship with Keri Starmer he should be allowed to say what he wants

  16. So, when he was on Have I Got News For You just before the World Cup he was criticised for going and not speaking out. Now he’s getting grief for doing just that. Meanwhile Gary Lineker seems to be able to say whatever he likes with little or no comeback.

  17. Unless it is corporate propaganda in the euphemism “advertisement”, some fawning for a dead inbred or fake cries about Ukraine?

  18. What about the other pundits that have brought up things like LGBT and Bisht. Just because that goes along with your narrative, you ignore it.

  19. Gary Neville gets a lot of stick from people, despite the fact he’s got the bollocks to risk his job and say what he believes and promote it. Most of it seems to stem from people thinking he’s a bit of a knob. I think he’s all right. Nice bloke.
