Recent reports said there were no life-threatening injuries, I hope at least that it ends up being the case… 🙁
Coverage for this hotel hasn’t been good this year Jesus.
First the removal of the Ukrainian families for no apparent reason to bring in male only DP refugees and now this incident afterwards.
I’ve stayed at this hotel, it’s really nice. When did they turn it into a direct provision centre?
Inevitable if you keep putting groups of people with nothing to do into your mates’ hotels. I don’t understand why we don’t send everyone who arrives illegally back to where they came from – they didn’t fly direct.
Very few details about this atm
Its doesn’t work you can’t cram 100s of male migrants inside a hotel, In a small Irish town. A lot of harassment stories coming from Killarney over the past few weeks that haven’t been reported either.
Putting the wild into the wild Atlantic way.
The business owners in Killarney and the rest of the ROK have been seething for months. 8 or 9 gone under in the town centre in the last month or so. The town’s main source of income has been thrown in the bin by the government and greedy hoteliers. By all means house refugees but SHARE IT OUT with the rest of the country and don’t throw them into hotels that usually support the local economy. Theyre creating a bitter ghetto.
Ah I think you think I’m complaining that the ambulances are there, not at all. No one deserves to be stabbed and I wish everyone injured a swift recovery. Unless any of them are the scum as you called them.
The issue is our direct provision is not fit for purpose and our health service is overstretched to breaking point on a regular night due to the inefficiencies of government. Piling a lot of people with different cultures into the one building with nothing to do all day is going to leave to further situations like this.
Are the government responsible for someone pulling out a knife to harm others? OF COURSE NOT
Who could have saw this coming?
No one could ever see this coming.
Lads, i know a lot of yee have strong opinions on this topic but im going to lock the comments for the night as in the past we’ve had posts like these brigaded, we will open them again in the morning. Oíche mhaith.
A hotel to avoid at all costs.
Well isn’t this the best reason to keep the 9% vat rate in and help the poor industry stay alive!!! Same as everything else, the rich get richer, fuck the rest of us.
I’m left with the impression that the refugee situation is running out of road. The govt is dependent on the Brits not stopping migrants/refugees getting there or we will be seen as a backdoor for at least some of them, dependent on Ukraine stabilizing so people can return home and all of this happening before tourist season starts. That is obviously on a knife edge.
The strange thing is why the govt sees no alternative to this. Less strange is why the media isn’t pursuing the reasons for it.
Oh my god the bigots and racists might of had a point about letting greed and unregulated migration become a business model😱
Can nobody see that what this is at base level is legal human trafficking?
They will soon start to turn their frustrations on the towns people. All young children and especially teenage girls should stay away from the hotel.
This is inevitable, and I’m still shocked it isn’t called out more in government. They obviously know the threats associated with this kind of approach. Why else would they have moved the Ukrainian women/children from this hotel? There was obviously incidents which left them feel unsafe. This is also the exact same type of centre the people on East Wall have been protesting, and rightfully so. If these people come here from other European destinations, and somehow show up without a passport, put them all on the first plane back where they came from.
Not a good weekend for violence by foreigners.
Will there be a snappy slogan for all these incidents like the “its not all men, but it’s always men” one?
It’s amazing people don’t see what’s going to happen here. It’s happened elsewhere, why are we going to be special?
Maybe the eastwall protestors were right…
The other side of the coin that no one wants to admit: these individuals will be Irish citizen within 4 years or even shorter time period. I’m an immigrant myself, but I renewed my visa every year, did not dump my documents on the way or pretended that I’m from somewhere else. Just an average Middle Eastern man, with education. Maybe I’m not naive as Irish but honesty starts before the moment you step in the country. Ireland should welcome the vulnerable people, not the chancers.
And this folks is what happens when you keep letting unvetted migrants into the country en masse, not the first incident and won’t be the last unfortunately because even though this has been an issue on this continent for years now we never fucking learn
Time to start deporting large numbers of these migrants.
What is going on with all the xenophobia in here.
Considering our history of oppression and all of us knowing someone who’s had to emigrate to the states or down under, how do you have no compassion for people having to emigrate to flee war and famine and being holed up in some hotel
Anyone who breaks the law should be deported. Two Irish lads were deported from Australia years ago for scamming residents out of money. They were swiftly deported back to Ireland, and rightly so. If you can’t respect the laws of a country you’re living in; deportation should be the consequence.
Sure we aren’t allowed say anything about it or we’re racist
