Came upon a book from 1884 that’s entirely in German. Is anyone able to translate the title for me?

  1. Looks like an Index of the journal “Lehre und Wehre” (‘Doctrine and Defense/Protection). Doctrine makes sense, since it’s a publication from the Lutheran Church (of the USA). The defence part could be defence of their particular version of Christianity.

In any case, it looks like the journal “Lehre und Wehre” was a fairly well known 19th century Lutheran journal.

  2. Index of
    “Education and Defences”
    years 1 to 28
    and of the
    synodal reports
    from 1847 to 1881.
    St. Louis, Mo.
    Lutheran Concordia Publishing House
    1884

Exactly what is meant by “defences” I can’t say (the word has several possible translations); it might be literal, in the sense of military defence, or metaphorical. Translation requests are better directed at r/translator, if you want any more translated.
