The beginning of Ireland’s ascent to the top table. Never let anyone tell you the EU isn’t worth it, it was instrumental in us throwing off the stranglehold of religion. Happy New Year.
Great
One of the greatest things any of our governments have done (outside of getting abortion and divorce onto the books)
Now don’t bother reading the comments below, you have been warned.
Well as bad as some think it can be our neighbors aren’t having a good time since they left
You lucky people.
Greetings amd best wishes from Scotland.
One day, we will rejoin you, as a fellow independent democratic European state.
Well, 50 years since we joined the European Community (then known as the European Economic Community). 30 years since the European Union was founded.
Let’s hope Ireland is reunified soon.
Technically you mean the EEC. It wasn’t the EU until the 1990s.
Thanks for the roads lads 👍
The Europeans – a great bunch of lads
The EU was founded in 1993.
We joined the EEC. Which was the precursor to the EU.
Positive opinions of the EU are also the highest in Ireland (ie the Irish population has the highest ratio of positive opinions of the EU to negative opinions).
Shout out to Jack Lynch 1917-1999. We did it baby!

Northern Ireland.
Must be nice
From UK
This year marks 100 years since Turkey started trying to join the European Union
Not bad lads, not bad at all.
Best thing that ever happened tbh.
Yeah I’m so glad we didn’t leave Europe like the UK. I love Europe.
Interesting thing about this thread is most of the posters will go and vote for a party that has been staunchly anti-Europe for virtually its entire existence.
We joined when it was a trade agreement, now it’s a government without checks or balances and the average Irish person has no idea who runs it or their political leanings.
I don’t want to exit because that’s cutting your nose off to spite your face, but I don’t have to like the current state of the EU and I believe the power of the EU should be removed from Central Europe and decentralised and hopefully return to the it’s original function.
Also Denmark and, uh, I was sure there was another one?
Glad to have you lads 💙💚
For all its legitimate failures, EU has done wonders for this country to drag us out from the mud of the 80s
We’d be nothing without it, remember that.
Probably the best thing we did since independence. Along with free education and the work we did to attract FDI from the 60s on.
I say F**K the EU, and b4 mass down votes from the younger generation let me explain. The EU wanted control of sovereign nations (without full compliance of all members can’t happen) , Ireland voted no. EU said vote again, Ireland voted no, EU said vote again and paid of more people and changed the wording to confuse the people, they got a yes. DEMOCRACY? NOT A CHANCE. EU= CORRUPTION

Can not think of any downside of EU citizenship
Good day for the parish
I fancy the EU and I’d sit on it’s face

I’d still call that a good move
