In Philadelphia visiting family for the holidays, watching local New Year’s tradition the Mummers Parade. The soundtrack for this entry was “Drunken Sailor” sung in an “Irish” accent.

This is what Philadelphia thinks Ireland is from ireland

  1. I mean, it’s not far off. We all have big green white and orange hoops in our wardrobes.

It’s part of the Irish citizenship test for immigrants, too. Gotta build your own costume.

  2. Lived in Philly for a year and I wonder if they still do the ‘Running of the Micks?’

It was a big pub crawl around Paddy’s Day time if I remember correctly.

Aside from the name, had a great time in Philly. And being Irish there you got plenty of free booze and party invites week in week out.

  3. Pretty accurate. I was doing exactly this for about two hours earlier in the front garden.

I got dizzy though and it started to rain, so I had to come in. Still, I got my steps in.

  4. It’s a nightmare trying to squeeze onto a Dublin ~~bus~~ donkey & cart in the morning with everyone wearing these.

  5. American here from outside Philly..I loved reading the comments. In defense of the Mummers Parade, all the costumes are way- way over the top. They have a section of the parade called the Fancy Division, it’s comprised of guys dressed in glittery and feathery costumes. Many of the marchers are drunk.
Even the string bands are in outrageous costumes.

  6. If I may, as someone who lives in Philly, the mummers parade is a day where everybody dresses in crazy costumes and drinks till they’re insane. This has very little to do with your country at all and this guy was most likely blackout already.
