We’ve had some fantastic politicians and moreso key civil servants (most behind the scenes) who made excellent decisions and pushed for more for our country over the past 50 years and before.
We tend to latch onto the more toxic ones but we’ve done exceptionally well from our EU membership.
Meanwhile, the Irish Times is running articles from some braindead Trinners Prof who wants to leave the EU. lol
I think I read a stat that in 1970 40% of the population was living/working in an agrarian setting. The big social change since then has been been from rural to urban.
My mother was able to return to work after we joined the EEC as the marriage ban was lifted.
Don’t want to be that guy but since the Irish support for EU membership is one of the highest In EU if not the highest what does that say about our strength as a nation and economics we rely so much from the others especially multinationals that stay here. EU might not always be there who the fuk knows , we need to develop as independent as possible
EU, great bunch of lads
The main benefit we gained from joining the EU was the extension of all the social and economic rights that workers had won via class struggle in places like Germany, France, Italy etc, all of which are being slowly eroded as neoliberal free market policies become increasingly engrained (Lisbon treaty, Fiscal compact etc) so while it has been good for Ireland in that time, I think ultimately the EU is negative for the working class

So much cultural enrichment.
EU can say that again!!!
Best thing to ever happen to the country
I honestly believe that, out of every country to join the EU, we’re among the most to benefit from it.
We went from being a third world country to one of the most prosperous countries in the EU – https://www.prosperity.com/rankings
That’s mind-blowing.
