Just to clarify, the road has a speed camera, and both the Hilux and dash cam footage provider were driving at the speed limit.
Driving next to another car is a major dick move though. Leave a gap. The hilux is also in the wrong since he’s not overtaking and should be in the left lane.
Hilux should have been on the left lane.. right lane is just for overtaking
All 3 drivers could have done something to avoid this and nobody did. Bunch of egoïst.
You’re all morons, the only driver in the wrong here is the dickhead taxi driver. Its a dual carriageway.
I will not comment on the situation as I have seen a lot of wrong. I will only say what I would have done in that situation if I was the one with the dash cam: Slow down a bit and provide some overtaking space for the taxi, even if he was a dick head. Maybe a family member had fallen ill, maybe he had an urgent need to shit, whatever the reason, I would have let him pass.
You should go to the police and file a formal complaint against the driver.
Both you and the Helix are at fault.
I’m Maltese (live in Canada) and just returned from visiting my family in Malta. I drove a rental and the way you folks drive is just absolutely insane and literally embarrassing.
1) You both should’ve been staggered, that’s what they teach in driving school. 101 basics.
2) The Hilux should not be in the overtaking lane just for cruising along. 101 basics.
3) You knowing that someone was trying to pass and you still didn’t stagger traffic is a no-no.
This ^^^ kind of driving provokes frustrated drivers, making them unsafe drivers, hence the dangerous overtaking from the left. However, it’s important to note that you’re not responsible for other drivers’ behaviours, but I think we can all expect that in *Malta* people become easily emotional.
While I’m on this note:
I don’t know why full grown men with their “cool” cars actually think they’re hot shit with an aftermarket muffler, drifting. You folks have short, small roads, not made for the way you drive, so why do it? It’s embarrassing and holds no regard for life – I’ve seen people drifting in a full parking lot. Don’t get me wrong, modded cars can be exciting to push to the limits, but when you do it like a pre-pubescent child, it just becomes laughable.
Why do you guys impede traffic instead of yielding to flowing traffic on highways? All you do is complain about your traffic problem and then you do stuff like this.
Roundabout lanes. If you’re taking the third exit then why take the left lane and then cut off the flow of traffic when you incorrectly exit?
As I previously mentioned, NO regard for life. Why? You don’t mind someone getting killed because of your shitty behaviour? Because that’s what will happen.
I could go on. But ejja, folks. Smarten up.
holidays are starting to annoy me because freaks come out the woodworks and crazies act crazier and petty crime spikes up. i experienced 2 crazies today
As many said before 4×4 shouldn’t be cruising on the right lane in chill mode
This country needs these dash cam videos. In general people drive like idiots here.
Next time just let them overtake. The biggest moron is the hilux driver who was hogging the right lane.
Driving in Malta has become a complete displeasure
White taxi tried to run me off the road a while back on my motorbike, literally swerved into my lane and tried to take me out. He was tailgating me so I called him a fucken idiot, enraged him that he literally tried to kill me, was on regional road so going around 60km. Should have reported him but wants the point, no cameras so maybe in 10 years there might be a case and he might get a slap on the wrist 10 years after the case.
I’m surprised I didn’t hear some classic Maltese swearing
That’s fucking nuts.
You did it on purpose not to let him pass. I would have come out and broke your car with a crowbar if it were me.
Hilux driver in the wrong. Driver is driving next to car on the left not to let the car behind him/her pass. Hilux owners (let’s assume male) tend to drive such vehicle because they are either midgets or lack manhood size. So they compensate by driving huge fuck all trucks. Same with convertable blue meganes. Fake peroxide Blonds with nothing to give to society drive them.
The problem is very clearly you and the hilux, refusing, for ages, to give way, when it’s a 2 lane and should have one lane clear for overtaking at all times possible.
Do you think that sticking to the rules will help you if you’re half dead from an accident? How will you feel if multiple people get injured from your stickler attitude? Obviously it would be great if he wasn’t in a rush, but he was- and at some point in life, all of us have. Meeting deadlines, sick family, work problems etc. Be compassionate and just give way, ensuring absolutely no one gets mad or hurt in that way. Xiggwadanjajt? Il milied it tajjeb.
Lol at the idiots saying the car on the left is at fault. The speed limit is 60 and there is no obligation to slow down or speed up to make space when on the left.
The 4×4 should have moved to the left.
And it’s a taxi anyway, they’re all assholes. Let him wait.
Is the right lane REALLY for overtaking when there are signs everywhere saying ‘choose your lane’ depending on where you’re heading? Most of our roads are so short. I never ever see a right lane that is empty and kept clear for overtaking.
Malta’s finest
Wouldn’t have done that dangerous manoeuvre however both the Hilux and the person with the dashcam would have left me quite furious.
Go to the police with the video-evidence.
We can discuss all day if the hilux + OP could have done something to ease the situation. Having driven for years in Malta, I know I would have accelerated and let taxi-tard pass.
But regardless of how we might act or not act, the behavior of the taxi-driver is COMPLETELY unacceptable, and a person who drives like that should not be on the road – not even in Malta.
That guy should lose his license.
