Joe Lycett facing hypocrisy storm for Qatar performances, despite shaming David Beckham…

  1. The difference is that he (from what it sounds like) didn’t take money from the government and openly criticised their system. Beckham took money from the government and took no stand at all.

    This seems like blatant smear.

  2. >He wrote in his *2017* book Parsnips, Buttered that he had done gigs in the countries while making fun of their homophobic laws.

Took them long enough to notice. And why is The Sun attacking Joe Lycett, anyway? He’s actually very right-wing.

  3. Oh oh oh but but he took money from hotels and not the Qatari government!!!

This is why the people in power are in power. I feel people almost accept cunts if they’re open about it. I saw JRM on Question Time last night, always heavily disliked him but I could at least somewhat appreciate the fact that he didn’t hide behind some false sense of moral superiority and knew that half the audience probably hated him.

The reason why these people remain in power is because the alternative is an odious set of upper middle class professional and media elites who run around preaching equality and minority rights only to be revealed to be even more bigoted and lacking in integrity than their conservative counterparts. Its a sad state of affairs.

    > Oops! I’ve been caught out by The Sun! I did two gigs in Doha in 2015 and kept it entirely secret by writing about it in my own book and mentioning it in multiple interviews including with the NY Times!

    > If you’re interested, I was paid a few hundred quid (not by Qatar but by UK comedy promoters) but it was 2015 and that went a lot further back then.

    >I reckon that if a popular comedian from those days (eg Shane Ritchie) had shredded a few hundred quid to persuade me not to go, it would have made a difference.

    >But who can say? I don’t have the perfect hindsight and spotless morality of, to pick a completely random example, The Sun newspaper.

  5. This is why you don’t follow celebrities on moral matters. He made money of Qatar back then and now he’s making money criticising Qatar. The common denominator is that he made money and that is what his and every celebrities interest is.

I don’t even care he’s a hypocrite. Most people are. But please people stop being taken by celebrities anymore

From the BBC article on it. Pretty clear cut really.

  7. Gee it turns out the self-absorbed narcissist on social media has skeletons in his closet just like every other self-absorbed narcissist on social media. Countdown begins to the inevitable sexual assault allegations from his past.
