Why does Ireland gatekeep their amazing crisps from the rest of the world

  1. Crisps are very expensive to ship and store as they are bulky relative to their value. Combined with the need to maintain stock of multiple flavour and packet size variations, as well as relatively short shelf life, It’s often uneconomical to export for what amounts to a fairly small market of ex pats.

  2. If you like cheese and onion sure, they’re pretty good. Top tier even.

Otherwise other countries have much wider ranges, better flavours and are more experimental.

  3. Skips is an interesting one, different branding to the UK skips, but essentially the same product isn’t it?

  4. Rancheros chickatees and chipsticks let’s be honest are cheap bland shit no different to Aldi own brand crap. Mega Meanies and Skips are fine. Tayto is the greatest brand of actual crisps in the world. Thai and Spicy rings are godly.

But yeah way too much respect paid to the lower tier of Chickatees etc. By hyping them you’re diluting the hype to the crisps we should actually be proud of

  5. I would kill everyone in my apartment complex for a box of Chipsticks and a box of Rancheros….well maybe not kill, but definitely think bad thoughts.

  6. It doesn’t my friend, was in a pub in Wapping, London last night and they had Taytos on sale which is the first time I’ve seen them out of Ireland but could be the start!

  7. Cos we keep the good stuff for ourselves.

Ah no just cost issues I’d imagine. That being said, it sucks when you go away and the only crisps are Lays razor blades and some generic off brand ready salted, where’s the Skips, and Burger Bites and Mummies? Countries need to be more creative with the crisp!

  8. They’re really not that great, and I’ll never understand why grown adults in Ireland are so obsessed with junk food and sweets.

  9. irish crisps are what i miss most since moving to berlin. the crisps in germany are boring and everything tastes of shitey paprika flavour

  10. Had a bag of Chipsticks for the fist time in about a decade. There was a fierce chemically like taste to them. 0/10. They used to be cool man……

  11. I have family in Denmark and they order online from Netcrisps, they’re based in the midlands I believe. AFAIK they ship to the UK and most of EU
