In the current law, you can get fast track citizenship in 6 years instead of 8 if your German is B2 or better and you have shown extraordinary efforts to integrate (like volunteering for German NGOs). The upcoming law was supposed to reduce normal time to 5 years and fast-track time to 3 years. That meant naturalization in 3 years for those with B2+ proficiency and ‘extraordinary integration efforts’.

However, after the various criticism the traffic light coalition faced in December, SPD announced that there will be stricter requirements for fast-track citizenship. One of the tightened requirements is that you will need C1+ proficiency to qualify for citizenship in 3 years. Other requirements may also be made stricter, compared to the current requirements, for fast-track citizenship.

  1. Seems reasonable imo. 3 years is a very short time frame so it makes sense you should need to show a very high level of integration.

  2. positive sentiment towards the principles of volunteering for NGOs

volunteering for NGOs focusing on tech development and environmental protection should be credits
