Was in the Lego store on Grafton St early, how is this 100 quids worth of lego?

  1. They have the original style spaceman Lego in the window, a spaceship, for 100 too (maybe 180). I can understand for that – it’s more collectable, even if not original… but this farm is just shite…

What I really laughed at was when passing I saw the front window displays, like the harry potter train, were COVERED in dust. 😂

  2. Lego have a lot of data on how much people are willing to pay for their product. Lego is aware that value is relative. To many people, this price is unreasonable to others it is perfectly reasonable. There is exactly one thing that will determine if this product is a success or not, and that is the market. As a luxury good, that is how it should be.

For the record, not a hope I would pay that much for that set.

  3. Well that was probably about £25 worth 30 years ago so, you know…

Lego prices look high but they aren’t really compared to many things that have gone up considerably.

Like I spent confirmation money of about £100 on the space monorail in the early 90s.

It is a very meagre set though.

  4. The Lego Store is the biggest rip off. They seem to think it’s some exclusive location when in fact I can walk down to Arts and Hobby and get sets for cheaper.

Never went back after the spoofers made people queue on opening day while the Disney Store had exclusive sets on sale across the road.

  5. It’s actually more expensive in the official Lego shop instore and online too than it is in Smyths. There is however more of a variety in the Lego shop

  6. We had a portion of our garden wall extended when I was a young child, say 8 maybe. There were about 30 red bricks left over after wards. I had endless hours of fun building with those real bricks and learned how a wall obtains its strength through the teamwork of the bricks too. Get them real bricks.

  7. The worst thing I’ve ever put myself through was the “create your own person” in the Lego store.
Making the little person is g but omg finding the hair and accessories etc 🤪 painful time for me especially during Christmas week

  8. Lego are absolutely taking the piss.
The kid wanted the 350 set this Xmas, heart set on it and I’d not the heart to not get him it.

But put that amount of plastic next to say a switch for the same money and it just doesn’t make sense for the value proposition

  9. Lego prices have inflated exponentially since Covid as it was one of the main mediums adults resorted to for passing the time. The common theme with Lego reviewers and creators is that Lego has completely lost touch with the community and are putting sets that nobody wants. I hope they change…

  10. Lego is brilliant but overpriced as hell! But we still buy them, so everybody’s is winning…
Their business idea, to link up with marvel , harry potter, etc is just genius and unless there’s competition in the market, prices will continue high….

  11. Well, you asked, so I’m giving you a long answer.

I’m a massive Lego collector. This theme doesn’t intrigue me so I’d find it hard to break down the pricing. But first impression, I think the main build is a bit bare, but there’s a number of side elements, all of which I am impressed by and expect would be very engaging for a child.

I am not just a Lego collector I am a massive collector of toys in general, and the quality and play value here exceed the same type of toy under a different brand. Yes, you could go get a tractor and farmhouse in the pound shop, but the plastic quality will be abysmal, the detail non-existent, and none of it able to be broken down and built into other things, or even have all surfaces connectable like Lego is. Not to mention the initial construction is a valuable feature, and Lego will be compatable with your other Lego sets.

I collect Transformers too and even though the parts are supposed to fold and click into place, they can often be loose, misaligned, etc. Not Lego. Each brick is made within 1/10 of a millimeter of accuracy, which is insanity. I have thousands worth of Lego and can vouch for the quality.

Saying that, yes, they have been pushing it slightly nowadays. Lego are getting a little greedy, have been since about 2020. Keep in mind though, the Lego store is slightly pricier than retailers. This would be at Smyths for about 80, which is about worth it. It’s a premium toy, and the play value and longevity a child can get from it is greater than you’d think.

ALSO, it is probably the only toy you can resell for the same price, if not more, depending on the set. Lego is better investment than gold (not exaggerating).

  12. It also looks like the figures here are similar to the Lego Friends series in shape. Look at the farmers legs/feet. They’re not the standard mini-figs. So it might be part of the Friends series. This series has a lot of media attached to it like Nijago so the price is always going to be higher. Through in Flagship store and UK import and 100 seems about right. IMO too expensive but the set would offer lots of play time to kids 11/12 and under.

  13. This is why Lego is such a great educational tool – Use this ignorant extortion to teach your Children how not to get ridden by retailers and cynical corporations.

What really needs to happen here is that a lower cost alternative Supplier is allowed to enter the market and put manners on these complete Arseholes.

  14. I have a few Lego sets I bought a while ago and I know Lego is expensive, but this still seems crazy. Maybe there’s something special about this set which I’m not aware of.
