If I’m not mistaken it was unverified rumors that were sourced to a single random media outlet the whole time… Now, I’m not saying Russia might not do something like this one day considering the ROC/Anastasiades government has chosen to get us politically involved on the NATO/American side, but I’d definitely like to see some concrete proof of steps being taken in this direction rather than pure rumors. Of course if something like this does happen we can expect the Anastasiades gvmt to not accept any responsibility for their diplomatic gaffe which could lead to such a thing.
It doesn’t matter. There’s hundreds of taxis daily from the North that take tourists from everywhere to the occupied area. Don’t be fooled, there is no difference between acknowledging the Ercan airport from acknowledging the occupied area by showing your passport at the boarder.
There are both points of entry
It shows again that, besides all the talk, in reality direct flights and recognition of the TRNC are not a priority for Turkey. Putin would probably do it nowadays if he was offered something valuable in return. And Turkey could easily force Azerbeycan to recognise TRNC. But they haven’t. The current Turkish regime is apparently very fine with the status quo (plus some extra provocations).
