The lion is symbol of Bulgaria. This one in particular was part of the original monument of the Unknown soldier, built on the same place in Sofia in the1920s. In 1940s the monument was destroyed during the Allied bombing campaign over Bulgaria and the lion went missing. It was found later and it was decided to be used again in the building of the new monument of the Unknown soldiers which was unveiled by the communist government in 1981.
Cuz lions are fucking cool
The lion is our national symbol, and [has appeared as early as the middle ages](https://www.rimstz.eu/images/lions.jpg). Not sure about how it all started though, hopefully a historian could shed some light on it.

Lion is symbol of our country… They guard the banitza with boza secret 🤫🤫🤫
maybe it has something to do with one of our most famous national heroes [Vasil Levski](https://welcome.bg/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vasil-levski-monument-karlovo-02.jpg), “Lev” coming from “Левъ” which is and old way of writing the word for Lion/Лъв. But I know little about history, so I may be wrong
