“I wear one all the time thanks to Tory spending cuts”
Fuck the people who threaten MPs, irrespective whatever political persuasion the MPs are. Those who threaten elected officials are a threat to democracy itself.
Could we also call for accountability for politicians for making literally everything in life worse that drives people to think like this in the first place ?
She wasnt wearing one when she visited Benllech … i call this story attention seeking bullshit.
Can I just politely remind everyone of Sir David Amess.
Anyone on here saying that the threat of being murdered in cold blood is an understandable consequence of their politics needs a fuxking ban.
Maybe I should get one.. for the next time the government stabs me in the back.
It’s a shame but if this is deemed a precaution to take then it’s sadly a sign of the times (after what happened to David Amess)
Obviously, there was an instance where this would have helped. However, fundamentally, our MPs shouldn’t be afraid of the public unless there’s something wrong with government and/or society.
If we analyse this a bit, we find that there’s been a few drivers in the past of extremism which are common and accepted for some reason. The gutter press. Now the social media mixing pot and echo chamber has amplified this extremism to pretty severe proportions. So, that kinda covers the societal reasons… However, considering that the press is continually publishing (in truth and fairness), how much of a complete rack of bastards the government, and practically all people that sit on those benches are, they kinda do hold some responsibility for the present nature of things. They should uphold higher standards than they are, as should the press, and as should social media platforms… In light of Elongated Muskrat’s twitter-hissy fit (twissy fit?) we now know for certain, that social media platforms have significantly lower ethical and moral standards than Rupert Murdoch’s ‘Fixer’.
In light of these facts, I’d say, that the best general course of action for everyone concerned is probably to… Nope, actually don’t know how to fix it. Suggestions?
Edit: Pretty sure the political class being armoured isn’t the answer, we tried that in the past, it just led to more bloodshed.
Really shows how scummy this sub is…plenty don’t see violence against Tories as bad…
Shit gets real when law abiding citizens lose hope.
I bet she made sure it is especially protective on the back. What with her being a tory
Disgusted but not by shocked by the people on here justifying violence against another.
Hate the Tories all you want but violence should always be condemned and is never a solution in a civilised society.
Imagine being self aware enough to wear a stab vest due to the political decisions you’re making that affect millions of people but still not having the awareness to actually push politics that help people.
Probably wise, and a shame she has to.
For the record though, there are a lot of other people who need their stab vests more because of the tory party.
While I absolutely condemn anyone trying to murder an MP, I do think the Tories need to recognise the reality that in a large society there will always be people who will resort to murder if sufficiently desperate or angry. It’s all well and good saying “people shouldn’t murder MPs” but like… yeah… no shit? If they don’t want to be in this situation they need to combat the causes. People need to feel like their MPs represent them and are fairly elected – this is impossible under FPTP. People need to have a way to express their anger and desperation without resorting to violence, for that we need protest and strikes, both of which the Tories are cracking down on. And most of all, people need less of a reason to be so angry and desperate, for which they need to stop absolutely fucking people over. If say, 10,000 people who were previously able to provide for themselves and their families fine are now forced to go hungry or rely on food banks through no fault of their own, they have no way to effectively protest without getting arrested and they don’t support the government and don’t feel they were elected fairly and legitimately, I’m sure at least one of them is going to be radicalised enough to resort to murder.
Tory policies have and will continue to result in tens, if not hundreds of thousands of deaths. From a purely utilitarian perspective they are far worse than any serial killer. Do I think that justifies them being murdered? Absolutely not. However flawed the electoral system is, and however morally reprehensible I believe their actions to be, they have been elected by hundreds of thousands of people and the responsibility for their actions is not solely on them, plus in their position the deaths of members of the populace is not as simple as a straight up murder. However, they do need to recognise that in running to be elected they’re agreeing to hold a position of extreme power in which you hold a great deal of influence over people’s lives, and if you misuse that power people will suffer and die, and there will be people out for revenge. I do sympathise to an extent, but no more so than a firefighter who fucks up and puts their life in danger. They took the job knowing that it comes with an inherent risk, and however wrong it might be, that risk *is* a result of their own actions. The same cannot be said of people who die as a result of their policies.
Around 700,000 people die per year, each is terrible, but you can’t spend all your time crying over them, especially when they are to an extent to blame.
Very sad that an MP needs a stab vest but sadly feel the same MP has been quite complicit in media gaslight and hate towards certain groups. It’s the hate you give that gets you.
wise decision. as the government wont do anything about the culture who stabs with impunity.
Has she tried not being so awful that her life is in danger?
Totally accept the wider point she is making about violence towards anyone being unacceptable.
Having said that announcing to the world the steps you’re taking to protect yourself is probably a bad idea.
If you’re that scared of your constituents, maybe you shouldn’t be representing them and step down instead
Don’t let this distract you from the fact the Tories are fucking this country into the ground.
Condemn violence against MPs then continue criticising them for being shit
If she gets a stab vest, all her constituents should get a stab vest because if she’s contributing to a society that she deems it needed in requiring one, then everyone else is also living in a society that requires one.
Better policies lead to less violence not just for her but for everyone. Violent crime has been on the increase for a while now, she has the ability to help stop that, the public however doesn’t.
A luxury is getting a stab vest in modern Britain.
Hate the Tories as much as the next man. They’re bleeding the country dry, but they don’t deserve to be stabbed.

However, MPs should also take more actions in removing Westminster rape culture [https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-whatsapp-sex-pest-allegations-b2254701.html](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-whatsapp-sex-pest-allegations-b2254701.html)
I mean judging by her [voting record](https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/25843/virginia_crosbie/ynys_mon/votes) if I was her, I’d wear a stab jacket aswell.
