Health chiefs plead: ‘Don’t get sick if you can avoid it’ as NHS faces ‘major crisis’

  1. If the government really wants to save money on the NHS, let’s invest in making the nation healthier. Make healthy food more affordable and unhealthy food less desirable. Make towns and cities pedestrian and cyclists friendly, improve public transport, increase green spaces (thus reducing both carbon and particulates and increasing soil quality), encourage exercise, and other things that improve health and makes it easier for people to get healthy.

  2. Get your flu/COVID vaccine if possible, stay home when sick and consider wearing a mask in public again. It might not do much for you but it could help others in the long run. It is the mix of viruses going around right now that are really putting pressure on the NHS right now, so while this may seem like an obvious thing to say, there are a lot of people who seem to have forgotten how viruses spread as COVID measures were dropped.

  3. I remember reading a while back that over 60% of NHS resources (GPs, ambulances, pharmacies etc etc) are used up by the 65+ population in the UK and I’d bet my left fucking nut, that a staggering large amount of that medical attention is either:

    A) a problem that can be treated themselves at home

    B) an excuse to talk to someone / something to do

    C) hypochondriac reaction, cuz Karen needs antibiotics for that passing cold

  4. This is the culmination of a problem that has been a decade+ in the making by the hands of our Tory governments.

I really feel for the NHS staff right now because they’re tasked with doing everything in their power and to their knowledge to aid, treat and medicate the millions of patients across the country but they just aren’t receiving any support from those in power.

Even over the last few years of the coronavirus pandemic where these people worked valiantly day in day out to mitigate the loss and damage done by the virus.

  5. If 111 was actually fit for purpose and had better knowledge of clinics and any proper training at all, lots of the a&e spaces could be avoided.

Elderly patients who fall also require ambulances for welfare checks more than any other group. This is because there has been no preparation for an elderly population.

The government know this but don’t care as morons will still vote for them however many family members or friends they lose. This is not the fault of nurses, paramedics or doctors.

  6. I work in an office of several thousand people lol. Would be a miracle if I came out of this winter without catching some kind if flu.

  7. Who wants to get sick?

During covid and regularly wearing masks, I think I maybe got sick once or twice? And that was always from getting it from my niece/nephew’s.

Now I’ve caught the cold/flu thing going around that everyone has just now (again likely from my nephew). Tried my best to avoid it but still ended up getting it.

  8. Full headline of article

    > Health chiefs plead: ‘Don’t get sick if you can avoid it’ as minister says ‘sensible’ to wear mask if ill

OP has sliced it up to make it look worse, post is bullshit

    > Article submissions must retain the source headline

Edit: Rules mean nothing apparently as long as they fit an agenda, agreed the health chiefs are full of BS but this post does not use the actual headline, rather a sensationalised and edited version. Nobody seems to give a fuck.

  9. This crisis is part of a larger manufactured crisis called the Tory Gov’t which for no good reason is scheduled to continue depressing the Nation for several more years.

  10. Oh it’s simple you can avoid most illness by staying warm so just turn the heating on

    Oh wait…

  11. Don’t get sick, while you live in your mold ridden, cold, wet house that you cant afford to heat properly if you only earn a “living wage”

    Sure thing boss.

  12. Oh wow, is this what I’m meant to be doing? I’ve been purposefully attempting to catch every contagious illness I come across, have I been doing it wrong all this time?

What kind of half wits are we calling “health chiefs” these days, jfc.

  13. How to avoid getting sick if you are a 5 year old that has to go to school….

Frigging impossible i tell ya.. Flu, cold, Strep A, scarlet fever, covid…

All making their rounds there making the kids sick… :/

Better stay home and hole up then? Screw education?

  14. Sitting in A&E with an asthma attack waiting to be seen. Sorry chief, my lungs didn’t get the memo.

    Edit

Got home about an hour ago. From checkin to discharge it was about 10 hrs give or take. The nurses and doctors were lovely, they were slammed but did their best with what was available. Lots of people yelling and being abusive to these workers, totally misdirected anger.

Yell at the Tories and Tory voters, not NHS staff.

  15. Are we really putting sickness like this onto personal responsibility too now?

Only YOU can prevent the obesity crisis.
Only YOU can prevent climate change.
    Only YOU can stop inflation.
Only YOU can stop the collapse of the NHS.

Neo-Liberalism… seriously man, Ignore systematic issues that require intervention blame individuals.

  16. Seriously fuck this. We’re paying a fortune more in tax and it’s going into the pockets of private contractors. No, I’ll get sick, the system will have to collapse and we’ll have to rebuild it with the privatised cancer cut out.

  17. That’s hilarious & rather sad … ‘don’t get ill’

Now we know the solution there’s def no need for the NHS or even GP’s

Cuts in general def created a less healthy society … poor quality food in shops, high volume junk food, air quality, school budgets reduced & lack of sports facilities school, education & poor quality school meals, local councils squeezed so less initiatives etc stress of working long hours & financial stress creates unhealthy people

Bigger picture it all makes a big difference

  18. Don’t get me wrong I know you can take extra measures to avoid unnecessary illness and keep yourself and others healthy but what do you want people to do exactly.

You can just tell bacteria, microbes and diseases to wait whilst the GPs, Walk-in Centres and Hospitals recover.
