Why not just put the money directly into the banks of the energy bosses since that’s where it’ll end up due to our energy industry being inexplicably and pointlessly privatised?
*Sits patiently waiting for people to project a negative spin on it.
There are three different cost of living payments available. Depending on your personal circumstances you could be eligible for one, two, or all three – meaning some will get £1,350 in total. Others may not be entitled to anything.
**If you’re on low-income benefits, you’ll get up to £900**
If you get certain means-tested benefits you could get up to £900.
Payments will be made to people on any of the following benefits –
* Child or working tax credits
* Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
* Income-related employment and support allowance
* Income support
* Pension credit
* Universal credit
**If you claim certain disability benefits you’ll get £150**
You’ll get this payment if you’re on any of the following benefits –
* Adult disability payment (in Scotland)
* Armed forces independence payment
* Attendance allowance
* Child disability payment (in Scotland)
* Constant attendance allowance
* Disability living allowance
* Personal independence payment
* War pension mobility supplement
**Those above state pension age will get £300 in winter 2023/24**
If you’re entitled to winter fuel payment, and are above state pension age (aged 66 and over), you’re one of the 8 million pensioner households who will get a top-up of £300 in winter 2023/24.
They spelt “Government gives cash to energy companies” wrong.
Another bung for pensioners that don’t really need it… means test that shit already
Capitalism and public service just don’t seem to deliver anything but profits for shareholders. Guaranteed by the state.
There is no competition, no innovation, no low low prices…
A fuckton of people never received the original £400 that was promised and were still fighting for ours. Can I run up a tab with Rishi?
Small moan ahead, so people on benefits get everything chucked at them again while the people that work hard get F all we just get to pay for it
With bills going up again in April 🤬
I’m a bit out the loop in this. From spring do regular people only get the the new £3000 cap and no additional help? Obviously great the poorest get some help but what about people earning around minimum wage who aren’t entitled to benefits?
How does one claim this? Or will it be automatically added to our account? I would click the link but I’m on an old iPhone and it would take years to load. Cheers
The wholesale gas prices are LOWER than before the Ukraine war. In spring we shouldn’t NEED more government funds because the prices *should be coming down*.
I bet they don’t.
How about instead of giving pensioners £300, we give £300 to every family that has a child below the age of 10?
We’re nanny-stating the old, while we make it harder and harder for the young, who are the future of the country. We already fucked my millennial and GenZ generations, how about we actually make things better for the next one, instead of appeasing the boomers for the 5,482,071st time?
Re-nationalise it all. This would be a proper use of taxpayers money, rather than just doling it out to shareholders.
Privatisation has been tried and tested and has shown to have abjectively failed.
Time for us taxpayers to invest in ourselves, for once.
Ah yes, giving us our tax back as a loan that we can pay back later to pay their friends in the energy companies absurdly inflated prices.

What heros.
‘cash’ payment is a bit of a lie. It’ll go to your energy supplier (probably electricity/gas) which wont help if you’re unfortunate enough to have oil fired heating…
Oh yay, more money for those who don’t work.
Meanwhile those who do. Enjoy your additional tax.
This government and the energy companies need to fuck off , they are mugging everyone off , price of gas is now the same as 31/01/2019 and yet everybody gets a price increase in the next couple of weeks how the fuck does this stand.
Down 9% today
Basically people who are not contributing, getting even more free money, taking away from working people pockets, got it!
So in other words, we’re giving more money to the rich because we refuse to fix the problem because we don’t want to help the peasants.
But hey, maybe if we say we’re helping the trash who should spend their lives in servitude to our growing wealth then we can trick them into not being angry at us!!!
Is this the new support because of the new price cap to 4300 sterling per annum?
And then we wonder why inflation has left this country paralysed in struggle mode
Wait, so we’re rioting this year right? Or are we holding out a bit longer?
I hope so as we’re currently out of oil with 4 kids. Using the immersion tank for hot water but can’t afford the £400+ for oil! Just wrapping up best we can at the moment and hanging it out until we can save it up. Nightmare!
I think it could be restricted to pensioners who receive pension credit, the old person’s version of universal credit which is of course means-tested
Wonder where all the money is coming from for this…………………..oh thats it……..
For most people, you’re effectively facing a £1300/year price increase
Loss of £400/6months (equivalent to £800 annually) and the price itself is going up £500
This is going to have a bigger impact than most people realize
