Seven people rescued from floodwater after ‘removing safety barriers’

  1. Id hope they get points on their licence some how and a claim against car insurance. I mean you can claim against someone’s insurance if they hit your house, so why not for the time?

  2. Shame fire service can’t charge them and hopefully their insurers may be somewhat awkward. I have the same opinion for people who drive onto beaches then ring 999 when the tide is coming in.

  3. Every one of them should be prosecuted for dangerous driving, fined for the cost of the emergency services and have their license removed with a 6+ month wait before they can get a new one.

If they moved the barrier and/or ignored the obvious sign then they are a dangerous driver whether that’s from blindness, stupidity or ignorance.

  4. So more of the tax payers money wasted on selfish idiots. They took the risk knowing full well what the outcomes were, they should pay the bill.

  5. Although the story’s intro says they “apparently” moved barriers, there’s no evidence provided of that.
The two tweets advise people not to ignore road closure signs, and one says “that are now in place”.

  6. For normal cars, if water is deep enough to reach the metal part of your wheels, it’s too deep for your car. There are loads of sensors on modern cars that don’t like being submerged, also the sudden cooling of your catalytic converter doesn’t do it any good. Never drive through water unless you know how deep it is.

  7. >The occupants of two vehicles, including an 18 month old child, were taken to safety by firefighters after becoming trapped on Barcombe Mills Road in Barcombe.

    I smell a safeguarding referral

  8. This happens all the bloody time.

In 2013 I was working in the response to flooding in Kent and we warned residents of a caravan park that they’d be flooded during the night and should leave. They refused, and at 1am 999 got calls from the residents saying the water was chest height so a helicopter had to be sent out to save the idiots. Still angry about that.

  9. Too many people see videos of 4x4s fording rivers and think their suv can do the same. Not knowing it takes multiple thousands to make a 4×4 suitable for fording

  10. How do you see a car stuck in water and go “fuck it I know better”

Happened to work mates if mine a few weeks back. Came round a blind corner into a flood van floated away. Stuck the hazards on got out and phoned for help etc. Van literally floating on the road did other people stop ? Nope slowed down and tried to go through as well. If a fucking mavano is floating your fiat 500 ain’t fairing much better.
    People are fucking stupid.
