  1. I thought that Portugal was better than France for several years. Maybe France is in top 5 now, but it wasn’t like that all this time.

  2. The association club coefficients are based on the results of each association’s clubs in the five previous UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League seasons. The rankings determine the number of places allocated to an association (country) in forthcoming UEFA club competition.

The season association club coefficient are based on points obtained by all its clubs in a given season in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), UEFA Europa League (UEL) and UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL).

    Points system

    Points are awarded as follows:

2 – All wins from group stage (UCL, UEL, UECL)
1 – All wins in qualifying and play-off matches (UCL, UEL, UECL)
1 – All draws from group stage (UCL, UEL, UECL)
0.5 – All draws in qualifying and play-off matches (UCL, UEL, UECL)
4 – Group stage bonus participation (UCL, UEL)
4 – Round of 16 bonus participation (UCL)
    4 – Group winners (UEL)
    2 – Group runners-up (UEL)
    2 – Group winners (UECL)
    1 – Group runners-up (UECL)
1 – Each round clubs reach from the round of 16 (UCL, UEL)
1 – Each round clubs reach from the semi-finals (UECL)

    Additional notes

    Penalty shoot-outs do not count.

For matches originally foreseen to be two legs (home and away) but reduced to a single leg, the calculation of coefficient points per match will be adapted as follows:

Three points for a win (in regular time or extra time)
Two points to each team for a draw (after extra time)
One point for a loss (in regular time or extra time)

    Coefficient calculation

The coefficient is calculated by working out an average score: dividing the number of points obtained, by the total number of clubs representing an association in that season’s club competitions. The resulting figure is then tallied with the results of the previous four seasons to calculate the coefficient. Where two associations have the same coefficient, the association with the higher coefficient in the most recent season is placed first.

These will be updated after each round of UEFA club competition matches.

  3. Without discussion the Spanish Primera División has been clearly the best European league since the late 90’s. The results speak for themselves, one just have to look at the massive number of trophies that Spanish clubs have won in UCL and EL.

It’s a bit surprising that the English Premier League is the most watched globally, when its level has consistently been lower over the past 3 decades.

I think Italian Serie A was the best league during most of the 80’s and 90’s, then Spanish Primera División took over until recently. Probably the loss of Cristiano and Messi has had a big impact.

  4. This reminds me of the worst film in history: United Passions.

Financed by UEFA, to document their bribery history.

You need to see it to believe it. They really paid to have their crimes documented.
