  1. Who still uses these Telenet settopboxes anyway. Almost all the interesting TV channels are also available in standard definition over unencrypted TV, and most smart TVs can record stuff natively. And if I want HD, it’s probably for a movie from Netflix, not for watching Ingeborg in HD.

    It’s not 2005, settopboxes are no longer relevant. I always get confused when I visit older people and they have two different remote controls for the same TV. The only reason some people still have settopboxes is because Telenet trained their sales people to flat-out lie to customers that these things are essential (or even “the future”, LOL). That’s how they convinced my grandma to buy one recently. So once Telenet’s “huzarenstuk van jewelste” to make these settopboxes even less functional is finished, nobody will still have one in their house and it will all be for nothing.

  2. If I hadn’t stopped using digital tv almost a decade ago, this would’ve surely been the thing that caused me to YEET that box out the window. M’fkrs, the entire point of digital tv used to be that you could fast forward past all the damn commercials!

  3. Cash cow tactics on a declining product/service. Boosting revenue a few years from it whilst investing in alternatives as Streamz. Would do the same thing, except earlier perhaps.

  4. I don’t mind commercials, it gives me time to visit the toilet when watching live. But sometimes it just becomes ridiculous, showing the same commercial more than once in a block.

  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if they target those users as well. The bunch that is most likely to stay regardless. Your huis tuin keuken famile/thuis watcher.

  7. this is not going to go the way they are hoping it will… What are we really paying for? The decoder? This just makes me think to get my own hardware.

  8. I was a cord cutter ever since i bought a house with my wife.

    I watch everything on my TV with a mini pc.
    My kids watch netflix, youtube and ketnet.

    Introducing this will lead to more people cutting the cable.

  9. I never had digital TV. Past summer I was pet sitting at my sister and turned on the Telenet decoder: reality TV, reality TV, reality TV,…

    People actually pay for and watch that shit?!

  10. I doubt this will make a difference on the usage and subscriber numbers. A lot people have tv subscription in their pack no matter what.(company funded, laziness, just in case, they watch TV, “cheaper” etc) The people that are still watching regular aren’t going to stop doing it because of some ads. In Belgium there aren’t a lot of real cord cutters anyway.

  11. Threw digital tv (there’s not really anything worth watching that’s not inundated with commercials) and Proximus (for obvious reasons) out three years ago. Now I only have internet from edpnet and I couldn’t be happier.

  12. Is this for all programs, or only of the Flemish broadcasters participating? Can I for example still skipp adds on f.e. Eurosport or foreign broadcasters (BBC, France, NPO…)?

  13. force feeding ads everywhere, it’s getting more ridiculous than the US. And they have ads between the last scene of a series episode and the credits

  14. 2 Years adfree, and loving it. I also have a rule not to buy anything they advertise for actively.

    Kruidvat is momentarily pushing alot, allright, no kruidvat. Try to buy as much as i can research myself.

    We realy don’t need al that stuff.
