Estonia developing legal basis to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine

  1. a.k.a. let’s legalize theft, call it something nice, and spit on EU principles like the right to property.

Because other than the common reddit opinion of “let’s just give it to Ukraine, what’s the problem?” – surprisingly, the EU decided that maybe it’s not so super cool if any member nation can just decide on a whim to take property from some foreign entity because they don’t like them right now. Besides human right considerations, that will also do the EU no favors in terms of future foreign investments.

The ONLY correct way to handle Russian assets right now is to keep them frozen and later contractually make them part of reparations towards Ukraine, AFTER you figure out which parts are evil oligarch money, and which parts belong to some random innocent Russian citizen.

    Sorry for the reality check.
