I only scanned the article but it didn’t seem to mention much of what happened with island of Diego Garcia so here’s a brief history.
Diego Garcia was under UK control, but in the 60s the UK decided to rent it out to the US so that they could build a military base. We allowed the US to gather up all the native islanders’ dogs and gas them in the streets in front of the islanders, a clear threat towards the islanders of the consequences they may face if they did not comply with the military. They then forcibly expelled the islanders, leaving them on various islands, possibly without their family, without a job, and without a home. In the late 90’s/early 2000’s the islanders won a court case and were granted UK citizenship, but all they wanted was to return to their home island of Diego Garcia. The military base here was now being used to spearhead the USA’s war crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq, so we couldn’t allow the native islanders to return. Tony Blair bypassed parliament and went directly to Queen Elizabeth II with documentation to sign forever banning the natives from returning home.
Queen Elizabeth II signed these documents. This was in 2004.
So we forcibly expelled African natives from their home. Gassed their pets in front of them. Forced them onto ships (where they were kept with the animals). Dropped them off in random places to start new lives, forcing many women and children to resort to prostitution. Allowed them to become British Citizens after a THIRTY. YEAR. WAIT. And then made it illegal for them to ever return home. We are still illegally using this island as a UK-US military base, despite the International Court of Justice ruling that the island belongs to Mauritius.

It must be very tiring being British. In one breath condemning imperial warmongering, then in the next being imperialistic warmongers.
If only there were an international organisation to arbitrate in these circumstances
