I can really see how France is doing way better because of nuclear! It really is the be-all and end-all solution this subs makes it out to be.
Every winter /r/europe makes fun pf Poland for having terrible air quality but who is laughing now? Or I in this case wheezing.
This are Day-ahead prices at the spot market. That is way less problematic then the [record prizes at the year-ahead future](https://twitter.com/JavierBlas/status/1471554915952697347/photo/1) markets this days. The reason for that is most of your electricity is bought from the ladder, at least if you have a lot of baseload in your grid like nuclear, coal or hydro.
Poland is so cheap because it has a lot of coal in its electricity mix. At the spot market decides the “market clearing price” the price for all electricity sold at an national market. And there Coal is cheaper then Gas. In times of average or demand and low supply of renewables sources, its either Coal or Gas that determines the MCP. so the countries with an higher share of Coal in there electricity a generating mix have a lower price the the once with gas.
Germanys,France, the Netherlands and Belgiums electricity market is so strong interconnected with each other, that the most of the time on the sport market they have the same price. I mean on company can just buy electricity from any of these countries if it wants. So Over the hole day there are often minor differences (like in the morning or evening hours) like you can see in the graphic. The differences in generating energy (nuclear, coal, gas, solar) are important for profit of the owner of the energy plants, but less so for the spot market. At least most of the time.
To all those wondering why those pesky Poles are running on coal. It’s because it’s cheap and they are poor. Simple economics. If energy prices double and are like in the rest of Europe any government would be in big trouble.
Untill the beer is cheap i can live with theese prices
Damn I can’t belive. We are number 1 in something in whole Europe lol
The market rules must be changed temporary as France and Spain suggested because these prices are going to destroy the EU industry and the recovery in 2022.
Right right…. well I for one am just glad we don’t have widespread power blackouts like the US does
