[Brexit means boom for Irish teachers](https://twitter.com/mikegalsworthy/status/1450476542908407821?s=20)

To Quote

I read that Brexit has prompted Irish TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teachers to become in demand within the EU.  This is because British teachers now need work permits to be employed over there whereas Irish teachers do not.

To be honest I never saw this one coming. I think for schools it will be less of an issue as they already hire abroad (met loads of Americans who teachers here) but for ESL companies used to hiring free lancers it’s gonna big a huge issue. Maybe not now since business is still slow but over time as people move on it’s going to be more of an issue

  1. So, any actual stats? Any information if this is relevant to Germany? This just keeps linking article with no information to article with no information to one where you need to make an account to read it.

Press X for doubt. In order to teach at public schools in Germany a special teaching degree is required which those foreign teachers don‘t have. There are teachers without that and masters degree in those specific courses they teach but they are usually reserved for areas where they lack teachers.
Also there is no shortage of people who speak fluent German and English in Germany.

  3. As for Germany, it won’t really be relevant for public schools because you typically need the German university degree for school teachers. And for private language schools and private primary and secondary schools, the market is so overcrowded, I doubt there will be many changes. But it may well be a Brexit bonus for Irish people in other EU countries.
