  1. Is that the official bank of Ireland number?? If it’s not appearing online it’s probably a scam. Don’t ring it. Go check online because I get ones with links and they’re definitely a scam

  2. The text seems legit. Call them before you go to the branch. If they’re anything like my branch they can basically do fuck all from there and will likely tell you to call anyway.

  3. 1800 946 764 is a BOI 24/7 emergency number for security issues like this. They will be able to tell you your recent successful/failed transaction and will help unlock your account

  4. I’d say it’s a scam. The scammers can send messages that looks like it’s from the bank because it appears in the text messages you have legitimately received from the bank. I’ve received texts like this before. Call your bank anyway and see.

  5. Scammers are able to spoof Banks’ numbers so that you end up having scam messages appearing within the genuine sms thread from the bank.

I’d be very careful and wouldn’t even trust a number that appears genuine after googling.

Ringing the helpline or calling into a branch in person is the best bet.

  6. Given the notification from your app, it does appear that someone was trying to access your account (and likely has your online PIN). Call the bank at their official number (not the one in the text, unless it’s legit and actually the same of course) and see what’s going on, if anything.
