Irish monks certainly also reached Iceland before vikings. The Icelandic called them “papar” (fathers) which defined Irish hermits living there when first vikings arrived there.
Considering the extent of trade on neolithic Orkney which is not too far away, this is not very surprising.
Why is this news though? I believe it’s been an established fact for ages.
