Hi All! American here, seeking some help. My son has a milk allergy, and I just purchased him some KitKat Vegan from Europe. Any help translating these ingredients so I know it’s safe for him?

  1. If this is the wrong sub I apologize. Cross contamination and “may contain,” is fine, milk just can’t be an ingredient. I thank you all in advance!

  2. Ingredients:

Sugar, cocoa butter, wheat flour, cornfiber (?), glucose, cocoa mass, palm fat, fat-reduced cocoa powder, lectin, vanilla, baking powder.

    Might contain milk.

  3. Tip; the google translate is quite good for these situations. You can have this in front of your phone and use the camera.

  4. It says “May contain milk”. If you’r daughter is severely allergic, I would recommend you to not give her the choclate…

  5. I know this is the Swedish sub, but ”saattaa sisältää maitoa” means as others have mentioned that it may containt milk. So maito is milk in finnish, if you ever need it in the future.

  6. Even with an allergy… It is good to expose the child to a little of the allergen. A tiny bit first. If there is no reaction, increase the quantity next time etc.

Body changes over time and allergies go away

  7. Probably made in a factory where milk/derivatives are also used in other products.

Generally though you can’t call something vegan if it contains dairy 😉

  8. The standard is that all the common allergens are in bold capital letters.

So when looking for allergens those are the only ones you need to translate.

  9. It’s vegan 👀

But if you’re referring to “might contain milk”, it’s because they produce other products in the same factory that contains milk protein.

  10. Posts likes this is so strange to me, why don’t you download Google lens and use the translate feature? A tip for the future.

  11. As said earlier “May contain milk”
What’s important to know of it’s meaning is that it probably doesn’t contain, but it can still be high amounts of it, like not sure of how much.

A google-translated copy paste in the spoiler below from the Swedish Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket)

    >!”May contain traces” of is a warning label and there are currently no limit values for products with this label. The same product may contain different levels at different times. Sometimes the allergen is not present at all. Sometimes the levels can be very low, sometimes higher. In an investigation, the Swedish Food Agency has found very high levels of milk, hazelnuts and peanuts in chocolate and bakery products. It is therefore particularly important to pay attention to the label “May contain traces” of on these products.!<
