    >Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez said on Friday that he would not approve any proposed sale of F-16 aircraft to Turkey, continuing his longstanding opposition to providing the weaponry to Ankara.

    >”As I have repeatedly made clear, I strongly oppose the Biden administration’s proposed sale of new F-16 aircraft to Turkey,” the New Jersey Democrat said. “President Erdogan continues to undermine international law, disregard human rights and democratic norms, and engage in alarming and destabilizing behavior in Turkey and against neighboring NATO allies.”

  2. Honestly, Im okay with this. There is a time and place to be principled, and there is a time and place for realpolitics.

  3. It sounds like a good deal for everyone. Turkey is an important member of NATO and if this is what it takes for them to accept Sweden and Finland to enter the alliance then it’s not that bad.

  4. Just promise to sell them the planes, wait for them to approve Sweden and Finland into NATO, then renege on your promise… there, problem solved !

  5. This is a speculation of course but i think this was Turkey’s intention from the start. Probably some people in Turkish administration knew that Swedish part of the “deal” was unrealizable but the real “price” was to get f-16 upgrades. Especially with the current anti Russian pro Nato sentiment this might very well go through.

  6. I am beginning to genuinely think that Turkey damages NATO more than strengthening it. I don’t say this lightly, I know about its geographic advantages, but Turkey has been a consistently untrustworthy ally and has caused many many problems.
