  1. Quite simple.

The article says he was on the dole at the time.

If he declared those savings, give him his car back.

If he didn’t, prosecute him for fraud, give him the full five years in jail. And fine him €43k.

  2. Ah cut the lad some slack, possibly his communion and confo money and birthday s too, also with the flu like, and yeah, cash discount perhaps from the dealer (ship) sorta thing.

Hope he gets the jeep back soon and feels better too.

  3. Maybe he was putting €50 away each week from his dole.

    For 860 weeks. (16.5 years)

Or maybe he earned from his illegal sparring sessions he was running in the woods during COVID.

  4. If ye make an application for the dole they ask to see any bank accounts ye have access to, credit unions and the like.
To see how much money ye have, if ye have over 5k? I think it is, then you don’t get the dole. It is means tested am fairly sure.
Surely someone knows offhand without having to research? 🙂
Anyways. Saved up 40k + on the dole my arse.
Career crim is way more likely.

  5. I wonder if they let the car dealer keep the money. Wouldn’t it make more sense to force the dealer to take the car back for a refund so the guards keep the cash?
The “jeep” is only loosing value sitting in some lot.

  6. >Det Sgt Crowley told the court that Mr Doherty was in receipt of social welfare and receives €307 a week and was not employed.

Is there Super Dole in Clare? I’m confused

  7. Why the fuck do we think it’s ok to scrutinise someone’s private purchases? What has been done to us that we think that we have that privilege?

  8. I’d be curious to read the ‘financial profile’ of Mr Doherty. I’d also be curious to know how he was getting 307 euro a week in social welfare
