It’s a shame that it took a war (accompanied by the typical geopolitical and economic crisis) for us to be able to gain enough momentum to reverse course on this decision.
Sure, the outcome is better than the alternative of investing heavily into gas plants, but a 20 year extension may have provided a lot more stability. Now we also give Engie way too much bargaining power as the government didn’t respect any of the deadlines they put forth, effectively putting the ball in the camp of a company.
I’m just glad that our [power generation profile](https://transparency.entsoe.eu/generation/r2/actualGenerationPerProductionType/show?name=&defaultValue=false&viewType=GRAPH&areaType=BZN&atch=false&datepicker-day-offset-select-dv-date-from_input=D&dateTime.dateTime=14.01.2023+00:00|CET|DAYTIMERANGE&dateTime.endDateTime=14.01.2023+00:00|CET|DAYTIMERANGE&area.values=CTY|10YBE———-2!BZN|10YBE———-2&productionType.values=B01&productionType.values=B02&productionType.values=B03&productionType.values=B04&productionType.values=B05&productionType.values=B06&productionType.values=B07&productionType.values=B08&productionType.values=B09&productionType.values=B10&productionType.values=B11&productionType.values=B12&productionType.values=B13&productionType.values=B14&productionType.values=B20&productionType.values=B15&productionType.values=B16&productionType.values=B17&productionType.values=B18&productionType.values=B19&dateTime.timezone=CET_CEST&dateTime.timezone_input=CET+(UTC+1)+/+CEST+(UTC+2)) will continue to have a nice gray bar inside of it. I’m all for solar, wind and hydro but nuclear power just provides a great ‘base load’ that (in my opinion as a layman) seems hard to replace for the time being.

We should have built new next gen plants.
