BBC gave Shamima Begum a podcast but would never give one to Tommy Robinson

  1. The Sun hasn’t even done 5 seconds of research on this one. It’s Josh Baker’s podcast in which Begum is the subject, it’s not *her* podcast! I’m sure the BBC would feature Tommy Robinson on a podcast if he agreed to be interviewed.

  2. Personally I think ‘The Tommy Show’ would be a right hoot.

‘Heeeeere’s your host, Mr Tommy Robinson!’

    ‘Tommy Tommy, Tommy Tommy Robinson!’

What’s not to like? Can’t be any worse than Piers Morgan.

  3. Before I go any further, nothing in this post is supposed to be an endorsement of Begum. That said…

One is a ‘reformed’ (?) convert to an extremist organization who now seemingly wants to reintegrate into society and may have a story to tell, warnings for others, etc. The other is an Islamophobic reactionary who positions himself as a journalist and selectively reports in such a way as to foster his own ideology in other people. It’s manipulation and I wish people would stop thinking that just because someone isn’t from the ‘MSM’ that they’re incapable or unwilling to resort to the same tactics.

  4. Just goes to show how out of touch The Sun is. even if they had given Begum “her own podcast”, she wouldn’t be the worst person to have a podcast by a long way. Every hateful nutter has their own podcast.

  5. They haven’t ‘given’ Shamima Begum a podcast. They made a podcast about her. She isn’t hosting or editing it. The podcast does not support or legitimise her hateful views. They’re just interviewing her and other well-informed people about her situation.

The British Government legally made a person born in Bethal Green stateless, without Begum actually standing trial for anything, effectively for the crime of being sex trafficked as a fifteen-year-old. I think its perfectly reasonable to have a complicated political discussion representing different opinions about it.

But I guess The Sun would rather drivel on about how woke the BBC is than actually talk about Tommy Robinson’s criminal convictions, or the fact that Robinson actually was interviewed on several BBC shows including The Today Programme and Sunday Politics before he quit the EDL.
