Health Minister Stephen Donnelly used government jet instead of scheduled flight for EU meeting in Brussels

  1. This is such a weird article. Like, ya, fair enough, the government jet isn’t the greenest way to travel, but this reads like Donnelly kicked Hugh’s dog or something.

  2. So 5 people used the jet for the same flight. 3 of them were senior officials. Is it possible that they were scheduled on the flight so they could all travel together and organise what they needed from the 8pm meeting?
Just because a briefing took place before the flight doesn’t mean everything was sorted through.

What’s the point in having a government jet if it sits there and does nothing? Surely this is a logical use of it? If it was just Donnelly yeah I’d give out but it wasn’t.

  3. The majority of the time, where a meeting is considered very urgent, they would use the jet, but commercial seats would also have been booked as a back up, just in case the jet goes unservicable.

Also the jet needs to do X amount of flight hours a year, as maintenance is done on flight hours but also on calendar time. The calendar checks will still be done, even if the aircraft hasn’t reached its flight hours service interval. Very stupid to keep the aircraft in a hanger and not to use it. Some flight hours will have been set aside for training, the rest might as well be used for it’s primary purpose, getting people to different locations, in the most economically efficient way, be that financial or time wise for the people been transported.

  4. who cares? seriously. I still don’t know, succinctly, what his plan is for the HSE. i realise this is a really complex question, but I’d expect him to have a strategy for the short/medium/long term that he could articulate.

  5. That’s how worried that gobshite is about our climate and earth 🌍 He doesn’t give a Damn, pack of hypocritical assholes the whole lot of them 🤬🤬

  6. Let’s be clear here, he didn’t just climb in the government jet and take off this would have had to have been approved. Drama over.
