**”Black people wait longer because there’s less people coming forward to give their organs from their ethnic group” said Winnie Andango from NHS Blood and Transplant.**
Headline frames the issue as being some form of systemic racism or NHS failure, or other unfairness
The actual headline should read that black people are less likely to donate organs, which is why members of the community have to wait longer (edit* because typically you’re going to need a donor who is of a similar ethnicity)
Trash headline writing.
Is there some sort of systemic racism where black people are sent to the back of the line?

Nope, “”Black people wait longer because there’s less people coming forward to give their organs from their ethnic group,” said Winnie Andango from NHS Blood and Transplant.”

What an utter embarrassment of a headline.
BBC with a typical bait headline. The quality of news reporting from the BBC is really terrible at times.
If the BBC were aiming this at the black community in order to encourage them donate more, that would be a good, genuine and positive thing to do.
I’m not fully convinced that that was the BBC’s intention though.
The supply of racism outstrips the demand. Stop with this nonsense baiting.
I’m not a fan of the BBC, but I doubt you can blame them for this headline. It’s maybe the climate today that we instantly jump to thinking, “because of discrimination?”, “they are saying that black people are discriminated against?”. But that’s the race obsessive agenda at the moment, it’s not necessarily the fault of the person writing the article.
I assume the title is perfectly accurate. We could speculate that the author “must have known” how it would come across, but look, if it’s a straightforward and accurate title…
Let’s make this racist please, we haven’t got enough problems. It’s time to include this
Yet more racism : better click on that 😢
Reads article ; 🤬
What about Asian people, what’s their experience. How long do white people wait. Does the person who wrote this understand how organ transplants work.
Why does the race matter exactly? Like West Africans and East Africans don’t really share much DNA so why would they be a better fit for organ transplants than white organs for example?
It’s almost like only 1 in 30 people in the country is black…. its almost like its obviously going to be harder to get organs from a smaller population…..
What a surprise…….
Born and raised in Ireland and never understood the differences.
Grown up and moved to England to work.
Still can’t believe we aren’t equal.. I love all people who love people.
I’m curious how people are seeing a factual statement as sensationalist. The article also states in the two opening paragraphs:
>Black patients wait up to six months longer for an organ transplant than the general population, new NHS data shows.
>
>The best match comes from someone of the same ethnicity – but only 2% of donors in 2021/22 were black, while black people are 4% of the population.
When I saw the headline my first thought was “Oh I think that’s because of the ethnicity of the organs and probably means not enough black people are donating theirs”
If anything isn’t the article bringing attention to the fact there’s more black organ donors needed?
Do black ppl only get to have organs from other black donors? 🤔
You’re going to need organs that are as similar to you biologically as they can be. Usually, that match will be found in someone of the same ethnicity. Some ethnicities donate less organs = less organs available = longer waiting times.
The reason for this is purely because of community and culture. My question is simply for black people. Are you donating your organs when you die?
Often, cultures forbid it. To receive a transplant, a requirement is a person of the same or similar ethnicity and obviously other medical requirements. Over the years, white people have been the primary race in organ donation as there is little culture to go against it. It’s seen as a deed of good and a way of passing on your person even after death.
It’s not racism, it’s just biology. It’s the same reason there’s a shortage in blood transplant availability for black people. They’re not donating their blood.
A simple solution would be for black people to begin going to blood donation clinics, begin donating their organs after death and have conversations with family members for the occasion of you need a kidney.
The title would’ve been much more suitable if it was, “NHS urges black people to donate their organs after death.” However, I guess that also could’ve had a racist spin if you look at it from a particular angle.
This subreddit is filled with racists and bigots, it is just a fact at this point really. It’s a subset of this country, I am taking my business elsewhere that’s 32 less people employed, not much, but I sure hope hurts this country.

When the last time you saw an article about the biggest health disparity of all : life expectancy ? Any guesses why ? https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/lifeexpectancies/articles/ethnicdifferencesinlifeexpectancyandmortalityfromselectedcausesinenglandandwales/2011to2014#life-expectancy-at-birth-2011-to-2014
