Whats it got to do with colour?? the country doesn’t have a pot to piss in.
Plenty of white people struggle to find funding for their start up businesses as well, usually because their business plan is totally flawed and destined to fail.
Racism is in so much of society, in a low insidious way which makes it hard to call out.
Investors look for quality of concept, innovation and investable characters. If anything is lacking your not gonna get any investment.
People who invest in things care about the idea. If your idea is shit you won’t get funding. Why would race matter if it’s going to make investors money?
Lot of people implying here it’s not about race, but I actually think it partially is. There are unhealthy perceptions in the society where even if two people are equally qualified, many especially older people would think the white person must be smarter than the black person. And sadly, the old people are the ones having all the money and power.
ITT: White people explaining to black people about racism.
Another unintentionally insulting piece to a black person. It’s never your fault, it’s just because you’re black. People won’t invest in your ideas? It’s not that it’s unlikely to make money, it’s because you’re black.
I wonder how much of this is down to number of black entrepreneurs going for funding in the first place, and what the hit rate of them is compared to white entrepreneurs.
Pre covid I used to go to lots of angel investor pitch opportunities and honestly 99% of them are such utter trash buzzword bullshit that it surprises me **any** of them get funding. I don’t know if investors particularly care about the race of the person leading it, but I definitely saw more ‘white boyz’ than any other demographic.
