The whole study was 15 interviews about the experiences of women in prison living in the same wing as trans inmates and their experiences, perceptions and views. In that group several women voiced such opinions, but the accounts were never verified. The study even explicitly points that out as a question for future research:

Yet still you see dozens of people here taking it as fact, because it aligns with their preconceptions. In other words, people want this. People are okay with it. People have no issue whatsoever to reverse advancements for the equality and safety of women that have been made over the course of the last century. In some locations, this goes as far as openly endangering minors. I do not know if it’s stupidity, ignorance, or simply misogyny. It doesn’t matter much. It just is. And hopefully, it’s just a phase that will have future generations look back with utter disbelief.
And because we – all of us, with very few exceptions – allow this type of tyranny over women to make it into main stream culture, we are all guilty. I can’t wait until we find common sense again and stop sacrificing simple science at the altar of ideology.
