Driving test on Thursday. What do the white striped areas mean? Don’t even know what to search to find an answer. Also if you’ve done your test at Carlton hotel feel free to drop some tips. Thanks

  1. I’m actually not quite sure myself, I think it’s because one of the roads has 3 lanes entering and everything else has two lanes off that it’s to help alleviate traffic or increase the flow of traffic through the roundabout

    So if you’re taking the third exit, you drive into the inside lane on the roundabout and cars that are getting off at the second exit can filter off as normal but then space exists for you take a place in the second lane

    I’m curious for the actual answer though

  2. It’s a shit show, to be honest, so don’t go into the stripes unless your avoiding some dope in the wrong lane, like some Langer in the middle lane going left or straight on.

    Call your instructor and ask the same question, a pretest would have been a good option if you knew the route and date. Again it might not be too late so do make the call.

  4. Yea, don’t drive on the white stripes.

    Study up on your signs for the pre test, you’ll be asked ten randomly. Make sure your car is empty! Nothing inside anywhere, and clean, inside and out. Also study up on the internal controls they can ask, they’re simple but if you don’t consider this you might get stumped. I ran through mine and discovered my car doesn’t have fog lights, for example. I would have shit the bed if that happened in the test. Same for the engine check.

    Be polite, even if they’re not nice, it’s not personal, it’s a big day for you but the instructor really doesn’t care about you and will never think of you again.

    For the test, you’re kinda on your own there buddy. You’ll have gotten loads of “tips” already but honestly, be sensible, get up to speed sensibly, approach roundabouts pretty slowly obviously ready to stop if someone appears from the right at the last minute, use your fucking indicators, always indicate when you’re leaving the roundabout nomatter where you entered from. People seem to think they don’t need to indicate off roundabouts if they’re going straight through.

    Take your time with the turnabout and reverse around the corner, if you make a mistake, straighten up and do it again, that’s allowed.

  5. Do not enter. Let’s say you’re approaching from the southwest, R121; and you want to take the 3rd exit southeast (bottom right). You’d enter the roundabout via the right hand 3rd lane on R121, and hug the grass. Then when you pas exit 1, the white striped line filters you out to the outer lane, almost as if you’d entered the roundabout at “the blvd”, where that lane would see you safely to what was exit 3 when you entered. This then makes space for someone entering at the blvd to enter the inner lane and so around it goes.

  6. It’s to help direct and maintain flow on the roundabout, as its a solid striped area, it means no stopping or entry (never stop on a roundabout). It’s design seems to be intended to allow constant and steady flow for a heavily trafficked area.

    As you enter, if you want to take the third or fourth exit, you’ll blend into the inner lane on the roundabout, the lanes are angled to allow you to leave at the appropriate exit.

    Most peoples issues on a roundabout stem from lane management, some people tend to get on the inside lane and forget how to leave, or get blocked in, and end up going around a few times, this looks like it was designed to avoid that issue, the lanes spiral out to the appropriate exit for your lanes, 1st and 2nd, outer lane, 3rd and 4th, inner lane.

You stop a couple of times, reverse around corner, 3 point turn, hill start and they make you pull in to the side of the road to pull back out, I knew how to drive but had bad habits, my teacher told me GOSH, Gear, Observe, Signal, Handbreak (then pull away obviously) helped me out big time, Goodluck 🤙🏼

  8. You are not allowed to drive into the sriped areas, consider them to be like a concrete wall, if you go into one on your test its a straight fail. They are there to help a car in the inside lane to move into the outer lane to allow you to exit the roundabout safely. Actually helpful for novice drivers ( or those not aquainted with the particular hell of the blanch centre)

  9. These are there to encourage the traffic flow outwards depending on how far you are going round the roundabout. It means you follow a single lane that gradually goes outwards towards your exit, due to the creation of the new lane to your right.

    In a normal multi lane roundabout you have to do this yourself and know that as you’re coming to say two exits away, you’re preparing to move over a lane, so that once you pass the next exit, you’re moving in the left lane for the upcoming exit.

  10. Ghost islands: Don’t drive on them. It’s a rather weird layout though. If anything, that roundabout should fail the driving test!

  11. It’s where 3 lanes merge into 2. When you enter the roundabout there are 3 lanes, the hatched markings then indicate that the outer lane merges

  12. No offense but you should know these markings insideout already from your theory test… Grab a used theory test book you wont regret it
