**Boiling hot take**: I *love* Orval beer (why would I make this otherwise), and I actually am from Gaume, not far away from the abbey.
But yeah, it’s somewhat … overrated. They probably got the best marketing campaign for Trappist/abbey beer, sure, but the *hardcore* Orval fans, mostly older folks, can be really obnoxious about it, especially in its region of origin.
And every time I hear a French speaking person insist it’s “un Orval” instead of “une Orval” (like most beer) with some made-up story, I feel like shooting my foot with a nail gun.
Pls do not downvote I still love it and you should all try an *Orval flambé(e)* anytime soon.

It’s great and I long thought it was way overrated but it grew on me and now I’m a fan. I don’t drink it often though
Currently have 2 crates in the basement.. want to cure them a few years before touching

Personally I really like Orval too – it’s my go-to recommendation for non-beer enthusiasts, also because it’s not as strong in alcohol as most other special beers. Only good reviews so far too!
