Puppy farming is one of the lowest, scummiest things people can do, and it’s shocking how many people buy from them without even knowing – or, more likely, without bothering to do some background checks. We’re slacking terribly on animal welfare in this country, and there’s next to no punishment for people who abuse animals.
If you’re thinking of buying a puppy – do your due diligence. Ask for proper paperwork, ask to see the mother and living conditions, Google the person and ask around the locality about them. You might want that precious little cockadoodlepoodore puppy, but if you knew it’s mother had seven consecutive litters without ever seeing the light of day, it might change your mind.
Alternatively, do the right thing, and rescue.

My new puppy was a rescue. Well I was hiking and saw a bag in the river that was moving . I took it out and 6 little puppies in it. I got them all rehomed and kept the only female in it. She is hard going at times but so lovable in other ways.

I’m going to assume that these dogs will not be weaned until they are 8 weeks old and the seller is lining up buyers well in advance so they will be sold as soon as they come of age. Also avoids the panic of trying to get rid of them and the potential destruction they will bring when they are able to run around.
Also, shelters do not help the situation. I’ve friends who recently moved into a new build Semi-D and nice garden space. They are avid walkers and hobbyist hikers and their application was declined because the garden wasn’t big enough. It was a small enough breed too.
Instead the dog will continue waste away in a cage, instead of going on daily walks and weekend hiking trips.

I think if people are considering rescuing a dog they are generally good human beings and lovely people and are genuinely interested in the welfare of the animal.

I think the issue that dogs are in shelters is not the same as dogs being bred and subsequently sold by breeders. There’s nothing inherently wrong with dog breeding, it’s how we ended up with domesticated dogs in the first place.
People, especially first time owners, often want to go for a puppy. Adopting older dogs is simply not for everyone. Someone who is willing to pay this much money for a puppy is doing so for a specific reason.
Personally, I’d have no problem adopting dogs from a shelter, I think it’s a great thing to do. The issue though, is people neglecting and abandoning dogs, not people who care for and breed dogs. The price tag is a bit much but that has nothing to do with shelter dogs.

I have a GSD and our next door neighbour has a pug. Anytime my fella is out the back garden the pug absolutely loses her shit and barks like crazy from inside the house at him. He completely ignores her, but on the odd occasion she’s out in the garden when he’s out she goes mad pacing up and down to get to him, and the poor thing sounds like she’s going to keel over! It’s like listening to an asthmatic, she clearly just can’t breathe properly at all. I don’t know how people are still wanting these dogs, it’s so fucking cruel.
