> Both the SVR and GRU have used Ireland for technology acquisition. Gardai have previously thwarted efforts by a GRU officer who worked under diplomatic cover at its embassy in Dublin to acquire engineering equipment that could be used for military purposes.
> Russia’s armed forces are also sourcing Irish-made technology to manufacture semiconductors, which are used to operate rockets and missiles, according to research by the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi) think tank. Semiconductors are used in everything from ballistic missiles to electronic warfare platforms responsible for killing and wounding Ukrainian troops and civilians.
Another good reason to close that embassy and send them packing.
There are almost certainly Irish sourced components in weapons being used against Russians. It’s just technology. It doesn’t care and it’s ludicrous to suggest (if anyone does) that every item’s final destination can be controlled.
Nobody should be surprised by this. Computer chips are just one of many “dual use” items exported by Ireland. Anyone who thinks we have no arms/defence industry is deluded.

Are they talking about chips made in our Intel plant? Surely off-the-shelf components like that are impossible to keep out of the wrong hands, anyone can buy them.
I’d be happier if we made entire weapons systems and gave them to Ukraine.
If Putin is using the spud gun, he’s sunk to lower lows than ever before.
Or is it Brady’s Kalashnikovs from Naas?
Is this news?
So are we the bad guys?
Jesus there’s a lot of reaching going on here. Components made in Ireland. Doesn’t even say what component. They could have aquired them anywhere at any time. Maybe Mick Wallace drove a truck load over or Claire Daly brought them in the booth of her car. My money would be on the shinners though
What’s the point of this article. We manufacture Shit. That’s it. We can’t do anything about what we manufacture once it’s exported to god knows where. We have sanctions already and honestly, do you think they make much of a dent? This emphasis on the minuscule details does nothing but fear monger
Can’t stop parts that are available pretty much everywhere from being used. Doesn’t make us complicit in any way.
Fuck Russia though. Hope Putin gets Gaddafi’d soon.
Poor job on enforcing sanctions. What bothers me more is that people here are okay with that. Iran also says they are not responsible on how their drones used killing Ukrainians
I’m sorry. What? Fuck it. We can’t be neutral anymore. Fg ff cunts!
Don’t trust the times, they’re more misinformation than actual news, components can come from anywhere, this is probably just them trying to stir up controversy yet again.
