The Caryatids at the Acropolis Museum in Athens. One spot is left empty to protest the sixth Caryatid being held at the British Museum in London.

  1. It’s crazy that you need to visit the other side of Europe to see the complete cultural wonders of classical Athens. I can understand why the Greeks are angry at this.

How would the Ukrainians feel if the Russians gave away to another country their museum pieces in the occupied areas? It’s simply insane.

  2. This doesn’t look a protest at all. They’ve placed the statues in their historical positions. It’s common for museums to do this as it helps visitors visualise their placements.

The wikipedia page shows a photo of the replica statues in the Erechtheion, the museum has put the statues in the same formation to add context. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caryatid](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caryatid)

  3. Just give it back to them, Jesus wept. It’s like they don’t have enough history of their own, they have to show off the stolen loot, it’s deplorable. Pretty sure people will be like “what the fuck were they thinking” a century from now when this is all resolved.
