No customer allocated free NCT test despite promise

  1. Well that’s wrong anyway cos they tested mine for free once last January (because they’d given it a 2 year cert but changed to 1 as they messed up with the 4 month extensions during covid

  2. NCT isn’t fit for purpose. Testing frequency should be increased to 3 years or else mechanics should be able to certify the safety of a car.

  3. My next NCT isn’t due until the end of April.

    Over 3 months away.

…My next available date in East Cork when I try to book is July 25th. The website also offers me a date in Cahir (Tipperary) for the first week of July.

  4. I booked my nct online and had to wait like 4-5months, i called the number of local nct and asked if they can put me in first available appointment..i think i got it in couple weeks

  5. The biggest con is that you can be waiting 3-4 months for an appointment through no fault of your own, yet you won’t get a test cert for the full year.

  6. My colleague is moving from Uk and needs to get his car registered, which also needs an NCT as part of it. Supposed to register the car within 30 days of being in the state… he can’t get an NCT until June 😂 the system is fucked!

  7. Be aware, I needed breakdown assist and when I rang my insurance they wouldn’t honour it as my NCT was out by more than 90 days. I don’t hear this being mentioned at all but it’s something people should be aware of.

  8. The NCT is safety theatre.

I know a lot of people, myself included, who were failed in one test centre and then passed in another without making any changes or modifications to the vehicle.
