  1. I could sing like that but I couldn’t stand all the arm hugging and elbowing you have to do.

Plus €120 split between 30 for a pub gig would be shite money to be honest…. “Heres your €4 ‘Fion'”

  2. anyone got any other recs for great Irish music?

only other musicians I know are John Francis Flynn, Lisa O’Neill, Ye Vagabonds, and Ronan O Snodaigh.

modern or old any is appreciated 🙂

  3. Fair play to them but there’s someone missing when trad is sung by someone who doesn’t seem like they’ve every done a day on the bog. Full respect to them and singing is great, but when it’s too perfect it doesn’t fit right, i want to imagine the singer has done a few years bare knuckle boxing whilst carrying a hod on the sites in Cricklewood, and well used to riding their bicycle overnight to Dublin for the all Ireland every year, and stopping for mass twice on the way home, saving the hay in every field they passed.

  4. I’d much rather hear what the actual live recording of this was like rather than the studio recording. It’s too polished and clean, prefer my Irish ballads a bit more raw.

But the video…I can’t get through to the end. All the theatrical winking, exaggerated expressions and arm swinging just makes me cringe. They all look like they want to be the center of attention and need to outdo the guy beside them with how much they’re feeling it…can’t stand that shit.

But then I guess this is packaged for tourists who think a load of clean-cut Irish lads casually break into perfectly harmonised song while having a few pints in their local.

  5. Are you ever in a situation where you’ve got this massive anxiety about what to do with your hands?
