  1. > The UK government has decided to block a controversial Scottish bill designed to make it easier for people to change their legally recognised gender.

    > Ministers in Westminster are concerned the bill impacts UK-wide equalities law.

    > It will be the first time ministers have used a Section 35 order, which stops a Scottish bill from becoming law.

    > Scotland’s first minister had said such a move would be an “outrage” and the Scottish government is likely to mount a legal challenge in response.

  2. What a ridiculous hill Sunak has chosen to die on.

Is it really worth causing a constitutional crisis over?

  3. Undermining the democracy of a country to shit on LGBT people. And they’re even *proud* of it. Conservatism really is a mental illness.

  4. It was a trap but I don’t see how Sunak had any choice but to spring it.

This was the Scottish Parliament making law that affects the whole of the UK, Westminster and Whitehall had no choice but to challenge it. However Wee Nicky carefully chose the issue so that she could garner the support of a section of culture warriors while making it difficult for more moderate people to oppose her for fear of running afoul of the “wokerati”.
The hard-Trans lobby exercises a surprising amount of cultural power among the absolutist young such that they could get such a doyen of the Left and feminism as Rowling cast into the outer darkness. Making common cause with them is a clever move.

  5. Honestly Britain comes across as Scotland’s abusive partner most of the time.

Seriously the country is facing An economic Crisis, why is the PM focusing so much against the Trans comunity?

  6. “critics of the plans are worried that allowing anyone to “self-identify” as a woman could impact on women’s rights and access to single-sex spaces like refuges and changing rooms.”
