We’ve been finding all fruit, veg, milk, bread, and just about anything that can is going off days before it’s supposed to or while while shopping the oldest items shelf life is 2 days.
I’ve been noticing it for a good while now and it just seems to be getting worse.
Bought a bag on Thursday dated 25th January.
Went to use it in a salad today and it’s mouldy too.
That particular one always goes mouldy a few days after opening. Dunno why. Have some SuperValu grated cheese in the fridge about 3 weeks and it’s grand.
Looks grand in that photo. I’d day you can eat it.
Same as their meats. Same as Lidl. Chicken going off way earlier than labelled and three packets filled with water. “Fresh” vegetables going off within 48 hours of purchase when they should be lasting a week
I’d seriously question the quality of the produce sold in either of the two. I quit buying in both of them because of this.
Same as LIDL. I stopped buying cheese there.
It’s always mouldy
They’re turning the fridges are freezers on less and less because of the electricity costs. (no source just lols)
Could have had air in the bag, could be your fridge is running too warm.
Lidl and Aldi have gone to absolute crap over the last year or so. Everything is near gone off.
I have usually championed them, but honestly Dunnes with their vouchers is unbeatable at the moment.
I had to notify staff in aldi one day that a whole batch of peppers were rotten on the shelf. The girl I told didn’t seem surprised. I’ve started doing smaller more regular shops and playing close attention to the dates.
Unfortunately it’s to be expected with everything at the moment. If we want to continue to be able to pay cheaper prices for things in places like Aldi and Lidl, then they have to find ways of manufacturing these things cheaper. That means quality is going to suffer.
I also get the feeling that a lot of these supermarkets are trying to save money and not necessarily keeping certain things refrigerated when they are being warehoused. Therefore things go bad quicker than their use by date.
The pre grated or sliced cheese you get is the crap that is deformed / has fell on the ground / the general shite. My BIL told me & he’d never buy bags of the grated stuff as he knows how it’s processed
Food going off is what food is supposed to do. Food you buy that can sit there for weeks (especially milk) without going off is probably not something that should be going in your gob!
Probably a Lidl right next door if not just down the road.
If so then their is no point in Aldi. If not then just spend more going anywhere else but Aldi.
We’ve noticed the veg, specifically carrots and parsnips, going bad after only a couple of days as well. All Lidl.
go vegan
Block cheese can grow mold spores on it’s surface after a while in the fridge. It happens to pre-shredded cheese faster due to it’s larger surface area – it’s just more prone to it. Might be more susceptible because of the mozzarella too, as it’s a higher moisture cheese.
Keeping it chilled is important. I’ve found expelling as much air from the bag before re-sealing seems to help a bit.
Everything in Aldi/Lidl had that ability
Many years ago Tesco used to sell cylindrical blocks of own brand mozzarella. Finding nothing else in the fridge, and a bit of mold on it, I cut the edges off and made cheese on toast. It was a little pongy when I opened it but was well in date so I thought I’d risk it. Bad mistake. Was very sick all through the night, front gums turned purple, and front teeth seemed loose for a while. I never reported it but also never saw it sold in any Tesco after that so suspect others did. Took a long time for my gums to return to a normal colour. Trust your senses not the use by date.
I had this problem with Dunnes cheese. Usually the smaller bags last longer for whatever reason
Seal it correctly?
I’d say your getting cheesed off with the whole thing
Stop scratching your bollocks before you go for a handful of cheese….
I’ve stopped buying their shredded mozarella because it’s constantly mouldy. Also bought salmon the other day and only when I got home I realised the use by date was 5th DECEMBER 2022. Pain in the arse having to return it and when I did, there were still 2 or 3 other packets on the shelf with the same date.
Why is this nsfw
I feel like super markets have been cutting corners, I got some wraps from Aldi that legit just crumbled and didn’t hold well at all
Why do you buy pre-grated cheese? Surely it’s a couple of seconds of convenience but you get a much worse cheese
Yep, I’m finding the exact same
Happened to the cheese I got in tesco too. So I just started buying the blocks of cheese, way better
Buy another brand and quit yer yapping
I get that same cheese every time and it lasts me weeks.
It’s going mouldy because they didn’t add enough Natamycin. Natamycin is an antifungal medication that is used in food preservation.
**NB** : Pre Grated Mozzarella is bollocks. It’s full of preservatives,(such as natamycin) and potato starch to stop it clumping together. You can get 210g of creamfields mozzarella in Tesco for 0.59c and it’s a far better product.
Aldi is gone to shit. I had this very same problem with a bag of cheese. Their meat, especially chicken, went to shit ages ago. Their fruit goes mouldy within a day or so, especially strawberries.
Aldi and Lidl are mainly full of junk or shit food
There’s potato starch in the grated cheese, I imagine that’s why it spoils so much faster than regular cheese. Then again, it could just be the larger surface area
Mould growing quickly is usually a good sign that there isn’t much shit in it.
Are you putting your grubby hands in there? That will speed things up.
Their bags of mozzarella go bad so quickly. Even with washing hands immediately before taking some out, I’ve had it go mouldy within 2 days. I’ve just gone to the cheese slices now, but they’re really not the same
I’ve noticed the exact same thing and I always get this cheese.
They’re turning off the fridges at night to save electricity probably… or maybe there’s just a bad batch the last couple of weeks.
I keep in the freezer once opened
Answer: either it’s the cheese or your fridge.
Cheese which has a high moisture content, such as soft cheese, has a higher risk of going mouldy quicker due to it providing a happy environment for bacteria to thrive in
Catfish
Bring it back every time…… otherwise it won’t change .
Happened to me once, returned it and he barely glanced at it, just told me to get another. But if everyone returned their mouldy cheese, they’d pay heed

Same happens with the Dunnes one sometimes
It seems to happen more and more.
Cheesy come…cheesy go.
