€1.8 million in mental health funding allocated to low-emission vehicles for HSE community services

  1. I’m sure that’s how these costs have always been paid for by individual departments (i.e. their own budgets)

But that should come from their main budget (or the overall climate budget if they want every department to do this with their fleet) not a one off fund to specifically improve the service at an urgent time for mental health in the country.

However if these are new vehicles for a new/improved service that increases access to care nationwide I don’t have a major problem with it – it’s not clear though

  2. As usual the people who aren’t able to speak up for themselves have been walked on again. Leo did similar back when he was Health Minister.

CHO’s have an overall budget which this could be paid from but looks like they’re just taking it for the ear marked mental health budget as usual.

People dealing with serious enough mental health problems probably aren’t going to care if they get transported in a electric vehicle and it won’t make a difference to their treatment at all…
