Military Support to Ukraine

  1. Surely Norway can afford to provide a bit more when they’re making money hand over fist on energy as a result of this war?

  2. AMX-10RC is a light tank – main uses are forward scout and tank destroyer. AFV is such a generic term – from a marder to a challenger 2, both are an AFV technically speaking.

*All tanks are AFVs, but not all AFVs are tanks.*

  3. Official number from the French ministry defense was [550 millions](https://www.bfmtv.com/economie/entreprises/defense/aide-militaire-a-l-ukraine-lecornu-assure-que-la-france-est-l-un-des-5-plus-gros-contributeurs-au-monde_AN-202211200127.html) euros in November, this graphic is simply false. If I can check in 5 seconds that one of the numbers is off by a factor of 3, it makes me doubtful about the other ones.

France argues that other countries count promises that are never delivered, which France does not, but I don’t know how significant or true this claim is.

  4. Main battle tanks are some of the best things that can be given and credit to the UK for taking the initiative but unfortunately 14 isn’t going to even move the needle. They need hundreds. The US is the ideal source in a vacuum, they have the stock and little immediate to medium term use for a massive tank deployment but I don’t know enough about the requirements of the Abrams as a platform, the logistics of moving that many vehicles that sheer distance, or the politics of supplying an entire armored force vis a vis Russian perception to say anything intelligent about that possibility.
