Military ranks of all German Ministers for defence

  1. Translations:

    “d.R.” – der Reserve (Reserve)

    “ungedient” – not served

“Flieger” – lowest rank of air force, means he quit before finishing conscription (due to bad sight afaik)

“Marinehelfer” – Basically Hitler youth rank for Flak(AA)-service at the end of the war

Also: The majority of these ranks were in the Wehrmacht, none in the SS, the later ones in the Bundeswehr and none in the National army of the GDR.

  2. But Isn’t it the point to have a civilian in this position? So you have a civilian oversight over the army matters? Otherwise you might as well abolish the position and let the generals handle it all between themselves.

  3. Franz Josef Strauß was a Oberleutnant, but he was corrupt as fuck. Greedy and megalomaniac is what German newspapers say about him.

If we get someone like him we would be fucked.
