Combined with the people rushing the doors that night it sounds like only luck something far worse hadn’t taken place inside the actual venue. I love going there but this likely sees it shut forever
Are all O2 venues shit? our local one certainly is.
Am actually really happy that the Heilung gig was transferred to Hammersmith
Poorly paid workers struggling to make ends meet taking bribes? I’ve never heard the like.
I wonder what Corbyn makes of this mess he got us into.

Edit: downvotes? Come on people, we’re meant to be some of the best at sarcasm in the world. Take a long look at the context, I am aware that Corbyn has nothing to do with the pay of the door staff at Brixton academy.
And if you think that poorly paid workers AREN’T at higher risk of taking bribes then you’re just straight up hard of thinking.
I’m worried that this aspect (corruption and bribery) of Indian culture is seeping into Britain. My friend works in the passport office and he told me it was not unheard of bribes to be taken in return for issuing passports to people who really shouldn’t get one.
Interesting. There was a Paolo Nutini gig at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester fairly recently, sold out, with quite a few people saying it was dangerously overcrowded. Wonder if there was a similar reason why.
I’m shocked I tell you, next we will find out they keep any drugs they find.
I refuse to believe Éomer leader from the Riders of Rohan took a bribe
They all do. I was out in Camden just before New Years and we were at the front of the queue to get into a pub. The guy on the door said ‘wait is probably 30 minutes, although I could fast track you for 20’. Like I said we were front of the queue so waited 5 minutes and were let in. Not the first time it has happened to me either.
This explains a lot.
I was so confused as to why literally thousands of people showed up without tickets. It didn’t even cross my mind that bribery was so commonplace that you could reasonably expect to get in even without a ticket.
negotiating his £3M tax fraud away? Becker and Piggott got jail time: why not him?
They were fucking cunts when I went for NYE one year, completely ruined my night by being overly aggressive constantly.
Think im seeing fat boy slim in march there. Does this mean its going to be cancelled? would like le money back
I paid one a tenner at a Klaxons gig in about 2007 to get into the standing section
I’ve been to the Brixton o2 several times since the lockdowns and thought I was just experiencing post-covid paranoia when it felt like it was way more crowded and sketchier than pre-covid. Looks like there’s been guineinely too many people being let in and crowds getting more aggressive as a result.
Just look at fabrics and se1 surprised they lasted as long as they did
Went there last year, for first time in around 10 years, horrified at how hostile, rude and nasty the staff were, bad attitude generally, wake up call that’s needed to sort things out there, I speak as a female, non drinking, causing no trouble whatsoever.
Almost didn’t want to say anything in the last thread about Brixton, just incase I was spreading rumors but heard all about this from the Fred again… Discord
People would go up to the touts, pay 60. The tout would tell them to go to a specific security guard, they’d wink or whatever & they’d get in ticketless.
Althouhg thinking about it, I’m not too sure how they got past the second security, which usually checks your ticket, to see if you’re standing or seating…
But yeah, not surprised at all.
People will always find a way to life hack any system for personal gain; look at Covid loans/stocks and shares/politicians/benefits/serial rapist in police/Russia/uk legal tax havens etc
Cost more to monitor and police so they think, until people die/creaking system/civil unrest.
Not surprised at all. Plenty of time ways that people can make money out of these events by letting more people in.
At my first gig aged 17 at the Kentish Town Forum my mate accidentally bought seated tickets on the balcony. When we got there we gave the security guard £30 and he let us down to the standing area.
Also, a lad at my school had a dad who was a ticket tout. He hooked us up with tickets for a few gigs. From what we could tell, they had a scheme running with security at some venues where they would collect tickets then keep them intact and give them to the touts to sell outside the venue.
I’ve only been a couple times to Brixton academy but it really is a dump, no air con or anything so you sweat like crazy & people pass out. Needs a massive refurb!
Not surprised. Went to a concert there and the security were just 😬

No mention of the security company name though.
