Can’t really blame him for refusing to promise something that might be completely out of his control. If someone’s been accused of assault and it’s been dropped or there was no evidence then should they not be allowed to continue with their work unimpeded?

I wonder how many policemen feel they have been wrongly accused of a sex-offence in some way.

He could just try to ensure it is female officers who deal with these crimes.
